My husband and I rented this condo for our stay while in Michigan on our honeymoon. The pictures are lovely and and we ended up in the "Alcove". The pictures are true, it did look like that. What I never noticed was the window unit air conditioners. I went by the "Accommodation and Amenities" that said "air conditioning" and I assumed that meant central air. When we got to the unit, it was 80 degrees inside. When I contacted the owner and informed them of my intentions to leave the unit on to attempt to cool it because of the high temps in the apartment, I was informed that "The window unit is a high output unit that is made to cool 500 square feet. You should notice it cooling after it's on for a short while. It's very typical that they are left on. They have a thermostat that you can set to your desired temperature. Central air is not an option with boiler heat for the older buildings."
Please just allow me to point out 2 things here. The building is LONG and the condos are boxy with a long hallway from the kitchen (where the unit is) to the bedroom and living room. The condo never cooled below 74 and that was after we went to home depot and purchased 2 fans to try to help move the air down the hallway. Also, the condo is over 600 sq feet. So it doesn't blow down the hallway and it is just not big enough for the job. While there isn't a need for A/C all the time, it is needed during summer months.
Also, you can hear EVERYTHING here. The people in the bottom units were very loud, the walls are thin. Parking is a joke. 4 units and "3 spaces" which is really 1 single on the left and what is supposed to be 2 on the right. It's really 1 big spot that they put a stripe down. Passengers have to get out before parking, in order to get out of the vehicle. The neighborhood is all rentals so street parking is non-existant.
Did I mention our queen size bed was on the floor? Not "comfortable" as described. Especially when your husband is 6'3". It was a box spring and mattress with a plywood surround to make it appear as a platform. Not very "chic and comfortable" as described.
Our interactions with the owners were a bit non-customer focused. Conversations felt a bit like she was talking to us like we were dense and couldn't understand, which is a bit odd to say the least.
Our check out was for 07/08/2012 and we only made it to 07/05/2012 we got a hotel for the 6th and 7th which had a/c and sound proofing.
Owner's Response: I was so upset to learn that my guests were unhappy with their experience at Clinton Cove. I only had one communication via email with them concerning any issues. The issue was that the condo was 80 degrees when they arrived. This was the week of July 4th when the temperatures soared over 100 degrees, and I do take full responsibility that the air conditioner had not been left on for their arrival. My response was that it was okay to leave the air conditioner on continuously to lower the temperature. Their comfort was my main concern. The air conditioner that each of the condos are equipped with is a Frigidaire #FRA123KT1, 12,000 BTU, 640 sq. ft. cooling area.
I do realize that parking might have been more difficult than most times in Grand Haven as it was the week of July 4th. The condos have 3 parking spots per city code and street side parking, and the neighborhood is actually more than 50 percent residential. The homes to the immediate east and west side of Clinton Cove are owner occupied homes.
Many have found the beds very comfortable and have stated so in their reviews. The beds in each of the condos are MALM, Article #798.498.44, queen size platform beds from Ikea with the Sultan Laxeby, Article # 201.259.71, slatted bed base. This is the same bed base that I have on my platform bed and find it very comfortable.
I try very hard to be courteous and helpful in any way that I can. If there are issues I am prompt to try and resolve them. I only wish that I would have known that they were unhappy and departed early. I did not know until I received the review.
