Woodberry is a comfortably furnished three story house. A living room with fireplace; dining area w/ table for 8 plus additional seating for 3 at a side table or island; large, well-equipped kitchen with island and 3 stools; master bedroom (queen) and a full bathroom fill the first floor.
Two bedrooms (2 twins, 1 queen) and one full bath are upstairs. A baby layette, collapsible crib, high chair and baby gates are available. A large bathroom is shared by these two bedrooms.
Lower level (walkout) has two bedrooms (2 twins, 1 bunk bed, 1 day bed), bath with shower and twin sinks, laundry area and a family room.
The water side of the house has a deck with glass rails for an unobstructed view and a screened porch. The house is wheelchair friendly with entrance ramp and 3' wide doors on first floor; not legally handicap accessible.
TV/DVD/VHS for movies only. Internet access via WiFi. Long distance calls off island require calling card.
The access point to our typically Maine rocky beach is marked by a rope around a tree. You'll step down about 18' onto sloping rocks and walk down rocks and rocky steps to the beach using a rope as a handhold. The elderly and small children will not find this easy access. The difference in elevation between our land and the beach is approximately 12'.
Debbie's family has been summering on Deer Isle since the 1890's.
Greg and I worked with Hewes & Co. and many groups of friends to build Woodberry starting in 2013 and finishing with a big party in July 2014.
"We've been coming to Deer Isle for the past 8 years and this has been one of our favorite places to stay on the island. Your home is truly magical and it was a true privilege to be able to stay here. Thanks."
Thank you so much! We have loved our week-long stay at Woodberry Cottage. This gave our family the opportunity to have all 11 of us –three generations -- together for a vacation for the first time. And, it was absolutely wonderful. The cottage had all the comforts of home – everything we could imagine or need -- be it for cooking fresh lobster or a closet full of games for the evening. What an incredible view of the ocean and the sunsets! We had great fun with crab races down on the beach, watching the tides change, the trips into Stonington for ice cream, the amazing stars at night, and just relaxing. We even went swimming in the Lily Pond. Cold but good fun. This was a new experience for the grandchildren. I would highly recommend Woodberry Cottage and would love to return.
The house was perfect for my large, extended family. We were all charmed by the personal touches and decor and realized how much work and pride has gone into making Woodberry a special Maine place. We cooked lobsters outside twice and were very impressed with the rig provided for this. I have never before been able to cook 20 lobsters at once. We had one day of heavy rain and made good use of the many games. Almost every night there was a late night, spirited game of Monopoly. The grand-kids played with many of the children’s toys there also. Most of us early risers started the day with coffee on the screened porch. We used the waterfront a lot. We swam (well the kids swam and the adults waded) every day. We went to several beaches, the Stonington Lobster Boat Races, Nervous Nellies, and we did multiple hikes, including twice to Barred Island. It was all perfect and we were sad to have the week over.
My friends and I spent a week at Woodberry Cottage, and had a wonderful, relaxing time in a beautiful setting with all the amenities of home. The cottage was clean & well maintained, and the owners provided brochures & maps for area activities.
During our stay we visited Acadia National Park, Nervous Nellie's Jams & Jellies, local galleries & shops. We spent a lovely day on Eagle Island, a night stargazing at Pine Hill, and dined at several area restaurants to include Barncastle in Blue Hill & McKay's in Bar Harbor. Of course, the cottage was equipped with everything we needed to enjoy a home cooked meal, and then watch a favorite movie or play a friendly game of cards or Mahjong afterwards. The screened in porch was a great place to chat & still enjoy the outdoors; and going down to the shore and watching the sun set was spectacular.
I would highly recommend Woodberry Cottage to anyone looking for an enjoyable, worry free vacation.
I rented Woodberry for a week for my family to come visit. I fealt like I was walking into a dream on arrival. The pictures do not do the place justice. It is as nice as it can be while remaining homey and warm. Having so many things to do from the rocky shore to golf right down the road. Can't say enough, loved it. Also the owners were very pleasant to deal with.
We just stayed for a week and found the home to be perfect. The location is wonderful. Thank You for sharing your beautiful home with us.
At Woodberry I had the odd sensation that I was spending time at a friend's home. The owner and the house were so welcoming. Lovely decor, wonderful view. Loved the little details like the firewood and the games closet. The screened porch is great. Close enough to Acadia for a day trip. . .plenty to do on Deer Isle. Wish we could have stayed longer. I hope to go back soon.
Woodberry is located on the NW side of the island. Beautiful sunsets. Our cottage is set off the road about 800 feet so you don't see or hear cars on Dunham Point Road.
Our area is typical Maine woods with mostly summer residences tucked away along the shore. We have one neighbor within view, but are unaware of their comings and goings.
A 2 minute drive or 15 minute walk will bring you to the Deer Isle Yacht Club dock at Sylvesters Cove. During the summer you can sit and watch fishing boats come and go and meet local summer residents. There's a tidal pool to the right near the beginning of the dock's boardwalk that's fun and safe for toddlers.
We are members of the Deer Isle Yacht Club. If you wish to use the club facilities for kayaking or to dock your boat you may acquire a Tenant-Charterer membership through us for your rental period which costs $310.
