Here is an opportunity to immerse oneself in the life and sights of the Eternal City in comfortable, affordable surroundings. Enjoy more privacy, space and freedom and save on hotel bills while you savour the local culture.
Many years ago my oldest daughter married an Italian living in Rome. Since that time, my wife, Jean, and I have made an annual trip to Rome and Italy to visit her and her growing family. After some years and two growing grandchildren, it became obvious that we needed to have our own place when we came to visit. Hence, a search for a convenient and comfortable apartment for use during our visits. Luckily we found such a place in the same neighborhood where my daughter and family resided. Since that time, we have rented this apartment to tourists during the time that we are not occupying the premises. My daughter acts as our agent in Rome and is prepared to offer her services and knowledge of the city to renters if needed. We have traveled extensively throughout Italy and Europe and consider Rome to be our second home. We try to express our enthusiasm for the city and the country to our prospective renters in hopes that they too will we able to experience the incredible wealth of art, history and culture that the city offers.
John Mortarotti purchased this apartment in 1996
Besides wanting to find an apartment in the same neighborhood as my daughter's area of Rome, we wanted a place that was residential in nature, quiet, safe and if possible, family oriented. At the same time, we wanted it to be accessible to the center of Rome where one could easily explore the many wonders of the eternal city yet experience, first-hand, the Roman way of life. The apartment is a mere 20 minutes by public transportation from the very center of Rome. This transportation is very reliable, convenient and accessible. There are many amenities in close proximity to the apartment. Restaurants, Trattorias, bars, shops, street markets, supermarkets, banks, post office, department stores, pharmacies, etc, etc. that help one to enjoy Roman life to the fullest. Also, the apartment is located just one block from the new terminal servicing the city's direct rail line to and from Rome's International airport. This is one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Rome and the residents are mainly upper middle-class in stature.
The apartment was perfect for me and my brother. It was comfortable and well equipped for our needs. We especially appreciated having the kitchen to prepare breakfasts and dinners. The location was very convenient. The owner's daughter, Marilee, is very gracious and gave us very good information about groceries, transportation, etc. Both my brother and I will definitely recommend the apartment to anyone traveling to Rome. Thanks to John and Marilee for the wonderful accommodations and for all they did to make our stay in Rome so wonderful.
We have rented this apartment several times in the last few years. Our last visit was for 2 weeks in Dec. of 2008. The apt. is roomy, comfortable and pleasant. The views from the balconies allow you to view the river below and the city around you. We especially enjoyed shopping for fruit, veggies, meats, flowers, etc. at the nearby, daily street market. Two supermercatos( supermarkets) are also close by.
The bus system is regular and easily used to reach the center of Rome. The owner's daughter(a resident of the area) is extremely helpful. She will meet you at the train station, give you tips to enhance your stay, and answer all your questions regarding bella Roma. We have always enjoyed our visits to the area and apartment.
We visited Rome in December of 2014 and we had a positive experience.
The web description of the apartment is very accurate. Not far from down town Rome (15-20 minutes by subway or bus) it is situated in a quiet residential area. From the balcony you can enjoy a nice view of a green park surrounding Aniene river. It is a very convenient location to visit Rome. You will find in the apartment all you need for a comfortable stay including a very well stocked kitchen, and a comfortable bathroom with shower and bath tub. The apartment is very well organized and you will find a booklet with detailed information in English explaining anything you might need : how to use the apartment, how to travel to different attractions, where to find grocery stores, restaurants and any other important places for a tourist. The apartment was very well maintained and clean. The apartment location allowed us to conveniently use the public transportation in Rome (buses, metro). Closest metro station is Libia on Viale Libia (we recommend metro over buses). The playground in the park, the soccer field (Italian word for soccer is calcio) 5 minutes from the apartment and the Luna Park (with all the rides) across the river made our kids very happy. You can find in the apartment a wealth of information about Rome (video materials, books, maps, guides). We recommend watching the “Rome Power and Glory” on the VHS (6 volumes) that you can find in the video library in the living room. Watch the video before you visit the attractions and you will understand better the historical context of each monument.
Marilee was a great host. She answered promptly and enthusiastically all the questions we had. During check in she went in detail over all important info about the apartment. Upon request she also suggested very interesting family oriented attractions and concerts in Rome. She lives in Rome and she can be a great help if you have questions.
We would definitely recommend this apartment to a friend or relative and we plan to come back. We had a great stay. Thank you John and Marilee.
John's apartment is but 6 km (as the crow flies) from the Coliseum and yet situated in a real Italian residential neighbourhood, across the street from the Ariene River. The local bus is a 15 minute ride to the Termini train station in the centre of Rome.
The rooms are large and the bedroom and living rooms both have walk out balconies. The place is spotless. Within a ten minute walk from the apartment there are dozens and dozens of places (cafes, trattorias and restaurants) offering great food. In short, for my wife and I, it was the perfect place to come home to after a day wandering the city.
We highly recommend John's apartment as a great place to base a holiday in Rome.
Stayed in this apartment about 2 months ago and found it spotless and spot on. It's exactly how it's described. Highly recommended!
We just felt like at home.
Marilee is a charming welcoming host.
The apartment is clean, and very well equipped.
Its location is fine : the neighborhood is calm, with little shops (bakery, newsagent, post office...). it is really easy to take the subway or the bus to get to downtown Rome.
If we go back to Rome, we will undoubtedly rent this apartment again!
I lived in this apartment and I was very satisfied. I had there all comfort I needed. The colors are great, I had enough space and I really could relax there. Rome is a wonderful town so I had to walk many days to see it's beauty places. When I came home I was really tired and the bedroom has offered me all the comfort i needed. Also I took a great shower in the beautiful bathroom equipped with everything I needed. The kitchen is also equipped with all you want so you can cook your best meal there and take a nice breakfast viewing the panorama of the town.
Apartment is located in a quiet residential area just outside the center of Rome. The neighborhood contains banks, street markets, supermarkets, newsstands, boutiques, pharmacies, laundromats, post office, bars, restaurants, etc all within 1 or 2 blocks distance. There is a bicycle, jogging path that borders the river directly in front of the apartment and has children's playgrounds included. Transportation to the city center is very efficient and accessible by public bus or Metro just 20 minutes distance. One of the best preserved and extensive catacombs in Rome is just several blocks distant. There are many excellent restaurants, trattorias and Pizzerias in the neighborhood that serve authentic Roman cuisine at reasonable prices. For those wishing to prepare their own meals there are several street markets, supermarkets, fruit and vegetable stands, butchers and bakeries within 2 blocks from the apartment. The area, Monte Sacro, was, until after World War II, the seat of many Villa owned by wealthy Romans. In the 1950's it the city expanded greatly and much of Monte Sacro was developed for housing the growth in population. It's proximity to the city center has made it a very desirable residential neighborhood in Rome. Typical of most large cities, this type of neighborhood contains all the amenities that one could possibly want or need. The apartment is particularly well situated since the street on which it is located borders the Aniene river that flows into the Tiber as it slowly meanders through the northeast part of Rome.
The city has built a bicycle-jogging path along this river that extends several miles. along this path there are many parks benches, playgrounds and other amenities that afford opportunities for residents to be able to access outdoor activity in the center of a bustling city neighborhood.
