Photos and Description of the Boyne City vacation cottage rental
- 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, sleeps 6/7

This home is on 130' of beach on Lake Charlevoix, just 4 miles from Boyne City. Lake Charlevoix finished 2nd in a nationwide contest in 2012 for 'prettiest lake in the USA'. The cabin has a 100' deck with spectacular lake views, and adjoins a 115 acre park with hundreds more feet of sandy beach to comb. This retreat has been in the same family for over 4 decades, but has been updated to add all the creature comforts of a condominium without all the other hustle & bustle that large complexes entail. The interior is all wood and a dock & rowboat come with the rental, with boat launches nearby if you choose to bring your own watercraft. Lake Charlevoix is the 3rd largest inland lake in Michigan, and provides great fishing and boating, with access to Lake Michigan. The Boyne area is a four season resort with not just summer beach activities, but fall hunting, winter skiing & snowmobiling, spring 'mushroomin' and a reputation as the golf mecca of the upper Midwest. Traverse City and a major airport is one hour south, with Mackinac Island or the 'U.P.' the same distance north.

Location: The Boyne City area is the primary vacation destination for the midwest. It is a four season locale with abundant lakes for summer breaks, fall colors and hunting in autumn, winter skiing/snowboarding and snowmobiling, and spring 'mushroom capitol of the world'. It is a 4 hour drive from Detroit and 6 hours from Chicago. Canada is just 2 hours away. If you enjoy the beauty of hills/trees/lakes and like to 'get away from it all', but don't have the time to reach remote areas, this is an ideal spot to visit. Traverse City is the closest 'metropolis' an hour away, but an hour the other direction puts you on Mackinac Island 'somewhere in time' where vehicles are not allowed. Lake Charlevoix is a deep water fishing and boating mecca that connects to Lake Michigan, and is the premier inland lake in Michigan. After one vacation you likely will look for a second or retirement home here. Charlevoix County has for its history the only 'kingdom' ever set up on US soil: on Beaver Island.

Amenities: This is a second generation family owned cottage that was completely renovated to add the creature comforts of a 'condo', but you can enjoy a place 'all to yourself' with this home. It is located on 130' of sandy beach with 100' deck to enjoy an unbelievable view of a large inland lake. A dock and rowboat are included, and nearby boat launches allow you to bring your own watercraft if that is your choice. We adjoin a 115 acre park with camping and lots more beach for you to comb or trails to hike. The cottage sleeps 6/7, depending on how you fill one double bed. We have cable TV but doubt you'll have the time or inkling to watch, with the beauty of your surroundings, and the abundance of things to do & see. We are close to everything in the north, but far enough away to make this truly feel like a 'getaway' place.

The Boyne area is about 4 hours north of Detroit, 6 from Chicago. This land of lakes, trees, hills and a sense of 'getting away from it all' is reachable easily even for those who just need a weekend away. The cottage is just 15 minutes from Boyne Mountain and the best skiing and largest indoor waterpark in Michigan. Lake Charlevoix is the premier lake for all water lovers, be they fishermen or boaters/sunbathers. Charlevoix, Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Bay Harbor, even the Straits of Mackinac are resort communities within a short drive.

Golf: There are 50 courses within a 45 minute drive, including TreeTops, the Boyne USA courses, other high-end resort/championship links and also a variety of good-value or walk-on courses. I golf for fun and don't have time to play them all...and I live here! I have played them all and can give some tips/coaching on where to play. This is a golf mecca.

Ski: The Boyne USA resorts at Boyne Mountain and Boyne Highlands cannot be beat in the Midwest, especially with the addition of the largest indoor waterpark at Boyne Mountain, 'Avalance Bay'. Nubs Nob and other local ski facilities are also top notch. Abundant daily fee and free/state owned cross-country trails are available. If you love to ski, Boyne is the best. Period.

We spent a week at the cabin and had a great time. It was a great location - very private but close to everything. Nice kitchen with all necessary appliances. We hope to go back!

Life is Good at the Beach!

5 of 5
Submitted: July 29, 2008 Stayed: July 2008
If you've never visited Northwest Michigan you are in for a wonderful surprise. The weather is perfect during the summer.

This is a somewhat rustic cottage but it had everything we needed for a great vacation on Lake Charlevoix. Boyne City is just a short drive down the road and is a quaint small town with a decent marina, plenty of places to eat and more than a few unique homes. The owner is very accomdating, lives in the area and can answer most any question about what to do and see.

The Cottage has the feel of being lived in and has plenty of surprises when compared with most. We found many essential items we needed but didn't think to bring like wood for the wood stove, spices for cooking, matches for a camp fire on the beach, games, puzzles, books, videos, as well as all the items we did need - soap and toilet paper, linens, towels and blankets. There are also all of the expected amenities of the typical condo.

The stone patio, extended deck, long dock and sandy beach along with the park beach next door made for a great beach experience. The water color on sunny days rivaled anything we've seen in the carribean. We parked our jet ski at the dock and had nothing to worry about the entire week. We also used the row boat for fishing. There are also some water toys available to supplement what we brought with us.

The Ironton Ferry is just up the road and made for a short trip into one of our favorite resort towns anywhere, Charlevoix.
We were also only a short trip from East Jordan and Murray's Bar and Grill, where we had the excellent all-you-can-eat perch dinner on friday. In Charlevoix make sure you visit the Villager Pub for the whitefish and Juillerets Restaurant for breakfast.
Overall an excellent "up north" vacation experience and one we won't soon forget.
