In 1909, Frank Lloyd Wright was commissioned to design a development in the mountains that would allow people from the city to visit the mountains, pick apples during Montana's apple boom, socialize, and live in a mountain utopia. He created the cabin designs and the landscape plan.
The ranch is organic and has several living spaces in a compound that sleeps up to 25 guests. We built a new entertainment building, the Cider House, which has a full kitchen, bathroom and shower, and a large deck with an outdoor barbecue and incredible mountain vistas. Plenty of outdoor space accommodates RV's and tents for large gatherings. The Wright- designed ranch is a fantastic destination for a weddings, business retreat, family reunion, vacations. Enjoy solitude, watch wildlife and the grazing horses and cattle.
Alpine Meadows Ranch provides a secluded, unique ranch experience on an organic property designed and developed by America's most famous architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. There are 215 beautiful acres with both meadow and forest, which back onto the 1.2 million acre Bitterroot-Selway Wilderness area. In addition, there are abundant deer and wild turkeys which frequent the property. Occasionally, moose and elk are seen in the pastures and forest. Cattle and horses graze in the pastures. Seasonal streams run through the property.
The Cider House was completed in 2003 and its interior paneling was taken from a 100-year old barn found on the property. The building was built in the Wright style with a hip roof, overhanging eaves, and abundant windows, emphasizing Wright's design concept,i.e., '..of the land, not on the land'. The building offers spectacular mountain vistas and is a great place for family retreats and adult functions. The building is set up to handle business meetings as well.
The Cider House: The Cider House had a full kitchen and bathroom with shower. Two-penny nails were used to secure the rough-cut unique hard wood floor, which is sanded and sealed. The floor was built to resemble an old barn floor. Structural ceiling beams were constructed from locally salvaged burnt trees and the blackened bark was left in place on the beams, providing a very rustic look.
