In the Blue Ridge Mountains, our TWNF nature center has trail maps and more about our mountain. The George Washington National Forest and the Blue Ridge Parkway are adjacent. Its 11,000 acres include winding trails, cascading streams, and lush forests. Wintergarden Spa and Aquatics & Fitness Center provide a full range of pampering and fitness services and it's right beside our place. Tennis: 3 deco-turf Indoor courts and 19 composition clay outdoor courts hold matches, clinics and lessons. Family and children's activities: the slopes-side Out of Bounds Adventure Center, crafts, campfires, guided nature walks, hayrides. 20-acre Lake Monocan recreation area, fishing, and horseback riding, with trail rides and lessons for all levels, are in Stoney Creek. Short drives take you to Wineries, Monticello and Ash Lawn Highlands, the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Civil War attractions, and other estate and historic properties too. Devils Knob Golf Course, recently renovated, is the highest course in Virginia, at 3,850 feet, and has cool summer temperatures and outstanding conditions 3 seasons of the year. Designed by Ellis Maples, it is rated as one of the state's top courses. Enjoy a 50-mile view of the Shenandoah and Rockfish Valleys. Breathtaking! The spacious 16,585 square-foot clubhouse has a pro shop, locker room, snack shop, and fine dining in the Devils Grill Restaurant. Rates are from $65 to $115.
Stoney Creek Golf Course, in Rockfish Valley, has been the site of numerous professional and amateur championships. Created by Rees Jones, it is open year-round with 27 holes on the distinctive Monocan, Shamokin, and Tuckahoe nines. The spacious clubhouse has a pro shop and indoor and outdoor dining. Rates are from $65 to $115.
Lessons are available on a private or semi-private basis to adults and children at beginning to mid- to low-handicap levels. Full range of golf instruction. Join us!
Ski Resort and Valley Sports:
Snow Sports R Us! Take the shuttle from our parking lot 2 minutes to the slopes - 25 slopes and trails, that is. Avoid the hassle of parking & stomping uphill in your boots and stay with us. Our condominium is a beautiful, warm retreat, with many custom-made features. It's the perfect place for 3 couples; 2 couples and children; 3 adults used to privacy, comfort, and convenience; and other combinations of adults and children. Ski, Snowboard, Tube, Watch by the fire with the best hot chocolate you've ever had! The Washington Post rated us the 'Best Ski Resort' for the second year in a row. Ski or snowboard one day on the mountain and play golf in the valley the next. Stoney Creek? Wintergreen's sister property in Nellysford which is in Rockfish Valley, just 10 - 15 minutes away, depending on the kind of mountain driver you are. Take the shuttle from our parking lot 2 minutes to the slopes - 25 slopes and trails, that is. 14 trails are lighted for night skiing and snowboarding. 5 chair lifts include 2 high-speed-six-person lifts, 1 quad, 1 triple, and 1 double. Slopes cover extensive beginner-to-expert terrain, with 42% Black/Double Diamond, 35% Intermediate, and 23% Beginner, including the new Discovery Ridge learning area. Ski right up to one of 3 restaurants for a meal break. Enjoy Snowsports School, Tubing, or special children's programs at the Treehouse and Ridgely's. The whole family can go tubing together - height requirement permitting. One of the country's top snow making systems supplements natural snow.
