We had the delight of being Lyse and Gus' first guests. We had a wonderful time with them and can not recommend this home, or its hosts, more highly. The accommodations are very comfortable. The views are spectacular. Lyse and Gus were very helpful, offering suggestions about restaurants, services on the island, and doing research for us when it might be useful. They also gave us a beautiful tour of their property including the pond (Relais) and cabin near it. If you are thinking about spending time near Quebec, and if you love the beautiful countryside, the most wonderful fruits, vegetables, and dairy products in the world, and beautiful hospitality in a lovely setting, this is the place for you!
My husband and I booked Le Franchar in September 2014 to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. We travel often, and have stayed in many vacation rental properties in the U.S., Canada and Europe, and we can happily report that our week's stay at this lovely house was easily one of the best vacations of our lives. Property owners Lyse and Gus are a genuine delight, striking the perfect balance between gracious warmth, helpfulness, and respect for their guests' privacy. The home is beautifully decorated, well appointed and extremely comfortable. The views are exquisite. We had originally intended to spend most of our time in nearby Quebec City, but simply fell in love with Le Franchar and the island, and spent the great majority of our time exploring, hiking, and simply relaxing in this charming environment. We will definitely be back!
We chose Ile d 'Orleans for its convenience to Quebec City. We selected la Franchar from the web sites pictures, we weren't disappointed in either. We had an easy drive into the City for visiting its historical area, museums and government buildings. When we stayed on Ile d' Orleans we took hikes, traveled the island and all that it offered. We enjoyed our hosts Lyse and Gus, and all their helpful information and knowing they were there to help should we need anything. One of our favorite walks was to the small hunting cabin about a mile or so walking. The pond and cabin provided a peaceful place to enjoy nature. Across the highway we could walk to an old maple syrup shed and take in many unusual plants along the way.
This trip enriched our lives in many ways. We enjoyed our site seeing, travels and home base, we have recommended this place to family and friends. We hit the jackpot with this VRBO listing!
We have had a real Quebec experience, with all the beauty and strength of a canadian winter during our stay: from extremely cold to soft temperatures but then rainstorms and icy roads. But then, at the end of the day there it was: Le Franchar, a real home out of home. Lyse and Gus were "partis en vacances" but Lyse was always there when we needed her to entertain the petit chemin glacé or to solve little problems of an incroyable winter! Le Franchar has everything you need to rest and to be pleased with the country side of Quebec dans L'Île d'Orleans. But it is central place to the the marvelous vieille ville and to Mont Sainte-Anne to skiing. We are already making plans to stay a whole month with our boys to have the opportunity to talk a little more with our new friends Lyse and Gus.

We have been to the charming Ile d’Orleans 6 or 7 times, staying at different B&B’s on each occasion. The B&B’s have all been very nice, but after staying at Le Franchar, it would definitely be our Number 1 choice for future stays. It was absolutely perfect.
We loved all of the space and privacy. It’s beautiful, too – as nice as the pictures on the web site look, there is an even greater “Wow” factor when you actually step inside. The view from the deck outside the living room is breathtaking.
As well as the great visual appeal of the apartment, we appreciated having a fully equipped kitchen to prepare meals in; the excellent (and free) wi-fi; and the convenient, but quiet, location. Lyse was also very good and easy to deal with – she promptly answered our communications, provided helpful information, and is such a friendly, lovely lady.
This is a very special place to stay in a very special destination.
