Welcome to the Music Maker. New to the cottage for 2011, brand new living room furniture, dinnette chairs and mattresses in both bedrooms. All the charm and lots of comfort, plus new patio furniture too! This cute, comfortable cottage is located on Coast Guard Point, the peninsula that forms the northwestern edge of breath taking Grand Marais Harbor. Take a stroll right out the back door to Agate Beach. Cool off in the crisp clear waters of Lake Superior. Later walk or ride your bikes into town for dinner and a little shopping. Then head back to your beach retreat and take in one of our famous Lake Superior Sunsets.
So pack your summer gear (Don't forget the sun screen!)and head for a relaxing stay at the Music Maker in beautiful Grand Marais. This cottage is not a winter rental...sorry. Spring, Summer and Fall only.
This was a great place to relax at the beach. The beach is a short walk over a dune to a lovely beach with plenty of elbow room. Even when the weather turned a bit cool and windy we were able to sit outside with the protection from the dune. The music festival was going on the first weekend we were there, lots of fun with lots of friendly people. We visited Crisp Point lighthouse and Au Sable lighthouse, Tahquamenon Falls and took a sunset cruise to Pictured Rocks. We also looked for agates on the beach but I don't think we found any. I could have stayed another week.
Very quaint little beach house! Susan was extremely accomodating. We were in need if a blender (yes, of course it was for smoothies!) which she promptly phoned the local hardware store and held for us. Grand Marais is such a great place. Peace, quiet and beauty. Just a bit of a drive though to pretty much anywhere. Great time! Thank you!
My husband and I spent a week at Music Makers cottage in July 2013. We loved the cottage. It's adorable, has comfy furniture, awesome beds, quality bedding, a nicely stocked kitchen, and washer/dryer. It's a short, easy walk to the beach - about 2 to 5 minutes. And a quick car or bike ride into town. Grand Marais has three restaurants. I highly recommend the West Side Diner - expect a wait for your food if they are busy but it is oh so worth it. Also check out the Pickle Barrel Museum and the Gitchee Gumme Museum & Rock Shop where you can learn much about rocks, minerals, etc. The town is quaint and small and not overly busy so you never feel like you're fighting crowds. It's the perfect getaway for rest and restoration, beach combing, and enjoying the majesty of Lake Superior. The cottage is clean, well-maintained, and stocked with games, television with cable, and other items.
Our family of four (2 adults, 2 young kids)stayed in the music maker from 7/23-7/30. It was perfect! We could easily walk into town,on a dedicated bike/walk path, to swim in the bay, dine out or visit historical attractions and shops! Wanted to point out that the cabin is located on the Lake Superior shoreline but you do have to walk a bit over the sand dunes to get to the shore. You can't see the Lake Superior shoreline from the property without walking over the dune. Our 3 year old had a bit of trouble navigating the sandy dune and ended up getting quite a few piggy back rides over the course of the week! Not a deal-breaker in my opinion!! We'll be back!
We just returned from staying at the Music Maker for a week. It was perfect for three adults. The cabin was immaculately clean. The beds were extremely comfortable, despite only a double and two twins. There is a new washer and dryer which we put to use washing sandy and Deet filled clothing after hiking around the Pictured Rocks lakeshore. In each bedroom were oscillating fans that kept the air moving in stuffy evenings. There were videos, DVDs, board games, and books all available in the cabin for entertainment.
The location was excellent. Lake Superior was only a short walk away over the dunes. We watched beautiful sunsets and the Grand Marais light come on in the evenings.
My only complaints have to do with to do with the cooking equipment. The frying pan needed to be replaced. The Teflon was coming off it and it was almost impossible to clean. A grill is on the porch but the grate was so rusted that we we unwilling to use it.
We would definitely return to the Music Maker in the future.
My husband and I have stayed at Music Maker twice and will no doubt do so again. For a small cottage, it has lots of amenities. The Lake Superior shore is a short walk over the dune behind the cottage and provides peaceful solitude. We highly recommend watching the sunset while enjoying a campfire out the back door. There’s a fair amount of dining options in Grand Marais (but we love the pizza at the Dunes Saloon best) and it’s easy to spend several days exploring the Pictured Rocks area. The Music Maker is a good base for activities in the eastern U.P. and we especially appreciate that the cottage is pet friendly so our dog can enjoy the area just as much as we do.
