Out of the Downeast tourist fray, Blue Hill lies off the busy transit between Camden and Bar Harbor. It is a unique little village as it has so many amenities, but remains unhurried. Weekly recitals, lecture series, Golf, tennis, and hiking abound. There are many outstanding local restaurants The 'Big Town' of Ellsworth lies 10 miles east if you get the hankering for a burger and a movie on a rainy afternoon. Acadia National Park is just 50 minutes away replete with all of its splendors; if you come, don't miss it! Basically, you're living in a picture postcard. The folks are kind and helpful and the tenor of the place is very low key. The sailing is spectacular. Two private clubs provide tennis, sailing and golf if you have an introduction by a member. Otherwise public courts and courses are nearby.
Somewhere Else Instead:
Originally built for a family of nine, plus spouses, plus grandchildren, this home is all about 'hanging out' together. The 'Lodge' design of the large center section promotes an all hands approach while the wing sections provide ample sanctuary for readers or snoozers who want to step out while the hordes carry on. The setting is very pretty and serene; you could spend all day on one of the back decks just taking in the view. The 2 mile trot to town is perfect for ensuring privacy while not making the trip too much of a chore.
