My husband and I first visited Akumal in 1999 and fell in love with the area, the people and the natural beauty. It became a dream to own a condo in Akumal and for the next several years, we researched and saved until our dream finally came true!
Many friends and family members have visited over the years. They all agree that Akumal is very special. Just the perfect combination of tropical relaxation with services nearby and welcoming, warm people. It is so true, one visit to Akumal and you will want to return again and again!
Sherry Sullivan purchased this condo in 2003
The beaches and natural lagoons of the Riviera Maya are spectactularly beautiful, but Half Moon Bay in Akumal has the best of all worlds! A sandy white beach with incredible underwater life that can be viewed right from our terrace! A daily swim or snorkel in Half Moon Bay is a must for us, and the awesome Yalku Lagoon is a short walk up the road. The sandy beach of Akumal Bay is a short walk in the southern direction.
Staying in Lol Ka'naab on Half Moon Bay is peaceful and quiet, away from the hubbub of Akumal Bay. You will be close to many delicious restaurants, shops featuring local handcrafts, small grocery stores and produce market. The snorkeling in Half Moon Bay is world class, teaming with sea life such as turtles, rays, and a multitude of fish! Rent snorkel equipment nearby and bring an underwater camera to capture the beauty, or just relax under the palapa and take a dip in the pool!
Sherry, we are really enjoying your condo. It is just perfect. We're already planning our next trip.
What an amazing experience this was for my small family of 5. We truly enjoyed every minute we spent in this place we refer to as "paradise". Since we've been back, our kids regularly say "Dad, when are we going back home". We didn't think we were going to be able to make it back this year, but after 5 months away, our plans suddenly changed. We are full steam ahead in our plans to return...this time with more family.
Really. If you have never tried a condo and are looking for a place....look no further. I will never return to an all inclusive again. I can honestly say that. from the pool to the ocean is a mere 5-10 yards. Yes you read right and no...that is not an exaggeration. Unbelievable views from the balcony, the pool, the palapas, the BBQ and anywhere else on Half Moon Bay. I wish these words could describe it the way it really is, but this is one of those things that you just have to see for yourself.
The Room was immaculate when we arrived and stayed immaculate throughout our stay thanks to the excellent staff at Lol Ka'naab. A beautifully decorated 2 bedroom/2bath. The bedrooms kept the rooms perfect at night and the living room if welcomed to a perfect breeze all day long...even in June. The balcony just screams for a cerveza the second you go out there...I prefer Sol... : ) The grounds were regularly maintained and the Property Manager "Elio" is one of the best people you'll meet. Extremely helpful, knowledgeable and frienly. After numerous times of coming to Playa and being afraid to drive...and paying riduculous amounts of money for taxis, shuttles etc...he was able to talk me into renting a car and realizing that there was really nothing to fear. The best advice I ever received. I will never pay for a taxi again in the Mexican Riviera.
The condo is located in the center of Beautiful Half Moon Bay. Walking distance to the famous "La Buena Vida" Restaurant. Amazing location, food and atmosphere. A short drive, bike ride or walk to Akumal Bay to snorkle with the giant turtles. Or you can simply walk 10 yards toward the ocean and snorkle from there. We saw countless species of fish in various sizes, turtles, stingrays, sea urchins & so much more to mention. I could go on and on.
Rent a car & drive less than 30 minutes to Tulum, Playa Del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Endless Cenotes, Xel Ha, Xcaret, XPLOR and much more. This is truly the best location in the area. You gotta be there to truly experience its beauty.
I'm relaxing on the pleasant little veranda, right at eye-level with coconut palms, enjoying the sight and sound of crashing waves, the giggle of children at the pool below. My husband and older daughter are out snorkeling at Yal-Ku lagoon while my younger daughter relaxes in the hammock with a book, and really, what more could you ask for?
This is day 3 of our 6 day stay, and we are feeling very pleased with our choice of Half Moon Bay in Akumal, and of this sweet condo, for a perfectly relaxed family vacation. The condo is nicely furnished, comfortable for our family of four, with room for the teenagers to not be bothered by their parents and vice versa. Since there are just a few units, even though they are right next to each other, it feels friendly and very much a family, rather than party place.
The location is great - we can step out onto the beach and into the waves (with an even easier entrance just up the beach a bit), and we it's just a five minute walk to a lovely beach-front dinner at La Lunita, or down to the popular (but to us less interesting) place, La Buena Vida. About 10 minute walk to Yal-Ku Lagoon, or 15-20 minutes or so walk down to Akumal Centro for all the amenities there. With a bike or car of course things would be quicker, but we're managing just fine on foot.
Today we had a very good lunch at Turtle Bay Cafe, and then walked across the highway bridge to Akumal Pueblo to buy fresh tortillas in the non-touristy part of town. We've also enjoyed a trip to Tulum - both the walk around the beautiful ruins and grounds, and then out to the stunning beach, with a stop at Gran Cenote. We chose not to rent a car, and used Yuca Tours, a non-touristy tour company, to take us, felt it was a good deal. Tomorrow we go to Ek Balam and Valladolid. Definitely feel we've chosen the perfect location to mix sight-seeing options with utter relaxation days!
We spent spring break with our grade school aged kids at your condo in 2010. It was our BEST TRIP ever, and even tops our trip this year to Kauai. The snorkeling was great. I swam with a spotted eagle ray just meters in front of the condo. The hammock and meals on the balcony with the water right there was fabulous. Waking to the sound of the waves really spoiled us. The kids still talk about going to La Buena Vida with their hammocks. We of course loved the many margaritas, just a short walk down the beach. We even watched rays from the tree houses at the restaurant. We will come back!
