About Brian or Dawn Steeland

My wife Dawn and I started coming to Grand Cayman in 2000 to scuba dive with our 2 children. We fell in love with the gentle people, perfect climate, and beautiful unspoiled sea. We finally purchased a piece of this paradise in 2010. It is a dream come true. Our cottage is one of 16 that were built as a dive resort in the 1960s on what was the very remote north shore. It has miraculously survived all the developers and is continuously preserved and improved by the very passionate individual owners. There is nothing like it left on Grand Cayman. We love to share it with our guests and receive lots of very positive reviews. We are blessed to have a local Caymanian couple, Miss Barbara and her husband Linsford care for our cottage and guests. They are like family to us! Contact us anytime. We love to discuss this very special place with anyone interested!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Howdy Brian!

I just wanted to drop you a note to say that we so loved visiting Cayman and your beautiful condo on the sea last week. The boys and I are still floating along in a half dream state from our time in paradise. Your space was exactly perfect for us with the pull out sofa for the boys, the fully equipped kitchen, all the fun DVDs, RUMMIKUB!, and the wonderful porch for dining.

We took your advice and snorkeled twice a day, visited Stingray City, walked the beach, ate out and I even got to drop a Travel Bug at one of the geocaches nearby that we picked up in Utah that "wanted to travel the world".

LOVED the beach parties at Kaibo and Rum Point. In fact we spent quite some time out at Rum Point drinking frozen concoctions, enjoying a casual lunch, swimming, playing volleyball, reading on the beach and shopping at the gift shop.

But far and away the most magnificence was spent snorkeling. The rays were incredible, the starfish out past Kaibo were a treat, and I got to log that I saw a shark right out front!, a Moray Eel and Scorpion Fish out at Coral Gardens, a lion fish about 10 feet from your shore that seems to be lodging there since it was in the same spot the three times I looked, a barracuda, and more blue heads, jacks, grunts, butterfly fish, angelfish, tile fish, needle fish, basslets, snappers, tang, parrot fish, and squirrel fish than I can possibly count. Absolutely mind bending.

So, a huge thank you for opening up your property to us and being so accommodating to my dad and the rest of us.

Sincerely,

~Louisa

It's not often that we are at a loss for words. We travel - a lot. This was paradise!

Brian was great. Very quick to reply to correspondence, accommodating and patient. He made us feel very welcome and comfortable.

The Sea Lodges are well equipped and you get a sense of the pride all of the residents have for their piece of heaven.

The snorkelling on the beach is extraordinary. We spent hours in the water and enjoyed every minute. We did a one-day tour while in Grand Cayman, and with the exception of the educational experience, didn't see anything different than we saw snorkelling at Sea Lodges.

We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone!

A snorkeling paradise

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at Sea Lodge #14 for two awesome weeks. The location (north shore) and sea lodge unit is everything as advertised. The lodge is very comfortable with many upgrades. How wonderful it was to wake-up with the sunrise each morning. You didn't have to leave the bed to view the sunrise. When snorkeling, we entered the ocean right from our lodge and went left towards Cayman Kai Public Beach. That is where the best snorkeling we found. Turtles, sting rays and a variety of tropical fish of all colors and sizes. We snorkeled Smith Cove and Eden Rock. Those two sites were ok. Trust me, you don't have to travel in a car to snorkel. It's right outside your sea lodge. You can walk on the beach to Rum Point. The sunsets are pretty spectacular there. Wear sandals if your walk the beach to Rum Point. There are some spots that are rocky. A leisurely walk will take you 20 minutes to get there. Enjoyed Queen Elizabeth's Botanical Gardens (15 minute drive from sea lodge). The trails, gardens and iguanas that roam about was excellent. You don't have to pay the extra money to see the iguana show. We did Georgetown just once. Wanted to check out the cruise ships, shops and 7 mile beach. If you want peace, tranquility, incredible snorkeling, stay at the lodge. Groceries are very expensive. Our dollar is worth $.80 cents. We shopped at the grocery stores (all about the island) and cooked in. If you like fish, I suggest your go to "Over the Edge Restaurant" and they sell local fish for a very reasonable price with spices that you can cook at the lodge. The Red Snapper was our favorite. Miss Barbara is the best. She accommodated any request we asked. Brian and Dawn's Sea Lodge is a dream that came true for us. We would come back in a heartbeat.

Ethereal

Brian and Dawn’s Sea Lodge was everything and more. The warmth and beauty just envelopes you as you enter and stay’s every waking (and sleeping) moment until you (sadly) take one last look back upon leaving. Warm sun, warm water and warm ocean breezes. It was heavenly, relaxing and restorative. The moon and the stars from the beach were incredible. Shooting stars! Who needs IMax? The snorkeling was magnificent; entertainment provided by the usual suspects including sea turtles, rays, angelfish, butterflies, tangs, flounder, moray eel and many more. Much gratitude for the time spent in this remarkable location. Plan to definitely be back again.

Very Charming Sea Lodge

  • 5 of 5

This is a well maintained, nicely furnished one bedroom unit. You can see the ocean from the living area, porch and the bedroom. Very quite and peaceful just the place to relax. Internet worked great and with the sea breeze you really don't need air conditioning. We will be back!

My husband and i spent a wonderful week in this cabin in Sea Lodges. Everything was perfect: the cleanliness of the place, the furniture, the accessories for the kitchen, towels and sheets were top qualiity,.. and the beach ... the beach was a dream !

The property's area is very quiet and special to relax and rest. The sea is beautiful, full of fish to enjoy a fantastic snorkeling. It Has everything you need for a perfect vacation : palapas, lounge chairs and beach towels, movies in DVD and good selection of books , and an island that is the best I have seen of the Caribbean!
