Near the beach...: Red River Beach is 9/10 of a mile away - making for a nice walk, a great jog, or a quick bike ride. It's a Nantucket Sound Beach and this is the largest beach in Harwich with both lifeguards and bathrooms facilities. There is no permanent food option here but the ice cream truck makes frequent visits to this beach. It's also a favorite launch place for kayakers, para-surfers, windsurfers, sailors and fishermen who want a short run over to Monomoy Island Wildlife Refuge. The parking lot accommodates 250 cars and parking passes are available right at the beach.
The ideal location for a visit to the Cape...: Harwich is certainly the most centrally located Cape town. Easy access to both Route 28 and Route 6 - the main thoroughfares on the Cape. Active vacationers can play at the beach all week, fish, golf, bike, walk and run. While theater enthusiasts can take the full variety that summer theater has to offer: Monomoy Theater, Cape Playhouse, Harwich Junior Theater, and W.H.A.T. [Wellflleet Harbor Actors Theater] - all are nearby. Nature lovers can head over to Monomoy Island Hawksnest State Park, Nickerson State Park, Thompson's Field within minutes. Shopping in downtown Chatham or heading up to explore eccentric Provincetown are great rainy day activities. Hop the ferry for a day trip to Nantucket - just about a mile away. There is so much to do and see!
