Searsport is an historic shipbuilders' town with a world-class marine museum, an oceanfront city park with basketball court and soccer field, great shops and restaurants, and more antique shops per capita than anywhere else in Maine! US Coastal Route One runs through Searsport, giving the visitor easy access to the entire mid-coast region. 10 minutes away in Belfast there are several community theaters, more great shops and restaurants, a cinema, and a number of art galleries. With Camden Hills State Park a 1/2 hour's drive, and Acadia National Park about an hour's drive away, opportunities for outdoor adventure abound: hiking, biking, climbing, sea kayaking, bird watching, and beach combing. Take a ferry to one of Maine's gorgeous islands; your hosts are more than happy to recommend. Enjoy the thriving arts community in Maine in the summer, with art exhibits, concerts, and theatrical performances within easy driving distance virtually every day.
