Photos and Description of the County Galway vacation chateau / country house rental Large Country Holiday Home, 6 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, sleeps from 6 to 12

Splendid Georgian (1730), Large Country House of great character and comfort, 6 bedrooms, (sleeps from 6 to 12) for holiday rental in Ireland's most beautiful region, Connemara. Wellpark House is situated in the picturesque village of Oughterard, by the river Owenriff, near Lake Corrib, famous for its salmon and trout fishing. It lies in one acre of lush garden, lawns and orchard with its own, separate, specially designed Barbecue Garden. It has a delightful large farmhouse kitchen with French windows opening onto a Sun Room, aromatic turf fires and winding staircase. Being a large country house, it lends itself to family gatherings. Built in a more leisurely age, it provides a tranquil haven for the work weary among Ireland's most beautiful lakes, mountains, rivers, candid beaches, fuchsia lined hedgerows and ancient castles. Connemara is also a superb Fishing area and Oughterard Golf Club (18 hole Parkland) is only five minutes away. Irish Tourist Board - 4 star rating

Christmas at Wellpark House

Tean Martha's Vineyard, MA USA
Review Submitted: February 8, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
Eight of us, 4 adults and 4 children spent Christmas week at Wellpark House. I have to say we had a wonderful week and really enjoyed our stay. We loved the fireplace in the kitchen and cooking great meals at night and spending our days exploring the beautiful west. The village, Oughteraud was was perfect with a great bakery, the Yew Tree and the lovely butcher across the street provided us with one of the best Christmas turkeys I have very had.
Wellpark House itself was warm and cozy and welcoming. This is a great house for families or a group of friends who enjoy relaxing in a wonderful old house situated in a great location, close enough to everything in the west.

Wellpark House

Ireland_2008 Malvern, PA USA
Review Submitted: August 5, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
The village of Oughterard was lovely. While the house location was near the village, getting in and out of the driveway was difficult. The house is close to the road making it noisy.
The garden was nice, but there is no outdoor furniture except benches at a picnic table.
The kitchen was functional, but the chairs were very uncomfortable.
The kitchen lacked basics - napkins, soap, pepper, salt, aluminum foil, etc...
The bedrooms are all very small and there is only 1 tiny shower in a bath off the kitchen.
Putting money in the electric meter was annoying.
The property was clean, but nothing matched - wallpaper, drapes, bedspreads, slipcovers, etc...seemed like it was filled with discarded things...
Probably wouldn't recommend the house to a friend.
Easy to get to almost anywhere in the area - great fishing, good restaurants and wonderful, helpful people.
Julia, the housekeeper, was very pleasant and helpful when we arrived and call before we left.
Owner's Response: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder".
The review doesn't mention the other 2 Italian hand painted tiled bathrooms, with huge corner bath, the one acre garden, the original antique furniture (would those be the "discarded things"?) and the winding staircase.
The mix-match floral country house designs in each room are all of matching shades. Not everyone likes Sanderson designs!
This very special romantic Georgian house was built in 1730 and cannot be compared to a modern town flat. Ireland's weather doesn't encourage garden furniture. Our hand- made local stone barbecue garden with teak garden table and teak seating for 8, surrounded by fuchsia flowering hedges was described as a "picnic table".
The house is not close to the road. The end of the huge front garden might be, but the house is set back at least 40 metres from its hedges and the riverwalk pavement on the other side.
Heating and electricity meters are important to allow each guest to have as much or as little heating, electricity as desired. Guests come from many parts of the world and have different needs. Sorry it was not appreciated.

Perfect accomodations for exploring West Ireland

Ready to go back Massachusetts, USA
Review Submitted: July 16, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
Wellpark is a wonderful holiday. Terrific accommodations for the 11 of us and well situated to explore stunning West Ireland. Every morning we would gather in the large sunny kitchen to plan our day. In the evening we would relax in the comfortable living room to look back on the great day we had. The house is a short walk from the center of charming Oughterard - convenient for getting supplies or a meal or a pint. Rossaveal, where you can catch a ferry to the Aran Islands, is a 25 minute drive south.

Annual Pilgrimage for the Mayfly

The Mayfly Gang Oxfordshire
Review Submitted: June 8, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
We have been coming to Wellpark for many years now and we always have the most wonderful time. The weather in May can be literally anything - we've had years when it has rained non stop all week to brilliant sun. Wellpark accommodates both with its peat fires and big kitchen to eating outside by the barbecue. We always feel at home at Wellpark - the beds are comfortable; there is plenty of room and it is a true family house (but mind your head on the way into the kitchen!)
I have to mention the fishing - Lough Corrib is beautiful and even the non fishers are mesmerised by the picnics on the islands..and Corrib tea. The boatmen who look after us on the lake are a lovely family and will make your visit truly memorable. They are all fanatical (and expert) fishermen and are past masters at the camp fire for the lunchtime stop (watch out for the blackened kettle!).
May Wellpark continue for many years to come!
