Knightsbridge Apartment Rental Photos and Description
1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom Home In Amongst The Glamour Of Knightsbridge
Ah, the age of discovery. Magellan and Drake. Stately galleons under sail, skimming across uncharted seas by the light of the northern star. But sometimes what we seek is already here – and so it is with Cadogan Gardens. With its remarkable world map, which occupies a wall-sized canvas, you might circumnavigate the globe from the comfort of your sitting room. And, if you can see past the ceiling’s magnificent plasterwork, a compass directs you north. But why journey anywhere else? Here, the fireside crackles, the walls are handsomely hung with Venetian artwork and, outside, the classy attractions of Knightsbridge would keep any explorer land-bound.
Your adventurous host has sailed around the world, and has a keen interest in the stars and navigation. His work has taken him to countries such as Sierra Leone and Ethiopia, where he teaches first aid. A former international rower, he loves freshwater swimming in the Serpentine and hanging out with his Bengal cat, Buddy.
On the map
Tucked just off Sloane Square, in a noble red-brick mansion block, this home is certainly worth the expedition. The sitting room is to be discovered on the ground floor, and it’s full of treasures. Chief among them is the glorious world map, painted onto canvas and spilling over with sketches – of elephants and camels, Venus and Don Quixote. Here, you can cross oceans just by settling into the squashy L-shaped sofa with a coffee. Plasterwork patterns draw the eye to the grandiose ceiling, while a fireplace and period writing desk lend a delightfully dated air.
Downstairs, the dining room is full of curiosities, from tusks to a plastic skeleton. The cabinet hosts glinting glassware, the walls art, and the table up to four diners. Go on a gastronomic journey to the well-stocked kitchen, where you’ve a room just beyond which folds out into a child’s bed. The master has a four poster double and fabulous wallpaper, while the bathroom is fluffily decked out with our fine white towels.
Here be dragons
The key to the graceful Cadogan Gardens nestles in your pocket, or you can take your picnic in Hyde Park. Shoppers will be spoilt for choice by the boutiques of Sloane Street and the Kings Road, while those of a Thespian turn must look in on the Royal Court Theatre. You’ve also Harrods, Harvey Nics, and the bright lights of the West End. But there’s no need for that compass – the tube from Sloane Square to Oxford Circus takes just ten minutes.
- children welcome
- non smoking only
