*For those that love the outdoors, you can find several walking trails in the area, including the Shapleigh Conservation Trail; also in Shapleigh, Recreational/Ballfield Way; in Sanford, Gowen Park and Number One Pond; or in Alfred, Massabesic Experimental Forest: BC Jordan Trail. *The Acton Fair is right at the end of our road, just a short walk away! The fair is traditionally in the end of August and includes livestock, midway rides, tractor pull, a parade, live music, and great fair food.
*Pick your own blueberries from 10am to 3pm, at Blueberry Hill Farm, located in Acton, right off Foxes Ridge Road. 5 miles off Rt. 202 just over the Lebanon town line in Acton, Maine. Look for their signs on Rt. 202 and at the end of their road. Strawberry and apple picking are also available in the appropriate seasons!
Shopping:
There are several factory outlets within one to two hours. North Conway Outlets are 50 miles, Tilton Outlets are 56 miles, and the Kittery Outlets are the closest at 44 miles, and about a one hour drive. There are also an abundance of outlet stores in Freeport, Maine, including the original L.L. Bean Store and the discount L.L. Bean Factory Outlet Store, these are approximately 60 miles.
Locally, there is a gas station/ store with limited groceries, snacks, gas and an assortment of other odds and ends just a couple of miles from the house. The nearest large grocery store is a Hannaford which is in Sanford, Maine, 9 miles away.
Winter on Mousam Lake:
The lake is just as fun in the winter! Enjoy peaceful walks in the snow, or bring your cross country skis or snowshoes. Bring your snowmobile to speed across the lake or access the many nearby trails! Try your luck at ice fishing and cook your catch on the grill. If you ski or snowboard, Sunday River (Maine) is 100 miles, Gunstock (New Hampshire) is 42 miles, and the many ski areas of the White Mountains/North Conway, NH area are just 50 miles.
