This cabin was built in 1925 by a member of the Disney family and it was used as a hunting lodge for his friends. There are several cabins, none the same, scattered in the area around the mother house accross the street. This house is a member of the Historical Society and we cherish its welcoming charm.
Barbara & Richard Cardinal purchased this cottage in 2003
When we saw this property, we knew we had to own it. It is so charming and cozy, not to mention it is part of Culver Lake and all it has to offer.
Lake rights to a private lake community for fishinig, swimming and row boating for our guests is a plus. Come back to the Cabin and feel the trees wrap themselves around you and put you a step back in time. Sit on the back screened in porch and relax in the peaceful quiet of the day with your favorite beverage. Evening brings fun around the chimnea toasting marshmallows and enjoying family fun.
My family and I had a wonderful early spring weekend at the Cardinal's Culver Lake Cabin. We arrived in a snow storm on Friday afternoon only to be met by Paul, Barbara and Richard's son, who was sporting a backhoe and cleared off the driveway for us to park safely. It only got better from there. We had plenty of wood to burn in their enormous fire place, comfy beds and couches, a lovely kitchen and dinning room with many small amenities that just made us feel at home. This is the heart of it; the Cardinal's have somehow created an atmosphere where everyone feels at home both with them and also in their cabin. We were at once absorbed by the fact that this cabin was one of 11 historical units built in the 1920's but fully updated with every modern convenience. From our base in Culver Lake we used our weekend to visit Raymondskill Falls, Millbrook Sugar Camp reenactment, Shops in quaint Lafayette, and had several meals in the Chatterbox, one of our favorite local restaurants. Great mini vacation at a reasonable price.
Beautiful VERY clean cabin. We all enjoyed the lake area. Very close to Stokes State Forest. Owners are very friendly and easy to work with
This is a wonderful property with everything you need for a great stay. It's close to the state forest and also has a view of the lake. The wood burning fireplace is a great feature as is the screened porch. The owners are great to work with. We have stayed here several times and plan to stay again!
So peaceful, close to so many fun opportunities! Rented a pontoon on Lake Hapatcong one day, went to a Jets game, kayaked Culvers Lake , toured Stokes and Warwick, enjoyed watching deer out back porch. We ordered beautiful weather, and it was delivered! Cabin was so cool, rustic, quaint, but with all the home conveniences. Will return in future.
We stayed at the cabin for three nights at the end of June. As a lifelong Central NJ resident, I decided to find out what Northern Jersey is all about and this cabin was a very good starting place. The cabin was clean and fully equipped right down to the firewood. The swimming beach on Culver Lake is a perfect place to spend the afternoon. Mom gets to sit in the shade on a nice grassy lawn and the kids can play in the sand and water. Beautiful Stokes State Forest is only a couple of miles away and you can even hike a part of the Appalachian Trail (which we did, of course). There are quite a few things to discover in the area, but we'll have to do that next time.
An evening fire in the cabin's chiminea ended the day perfectly. We made smores on the fire every night and even cooked a few hot dogs on sticks.
Sitting on the back porch provided lovely and peaceful views of the woods and wildlife. It was a perfect place to read a book.
We hope to return next spring, for sure. Thank you, Barbara, for your hospitality.
This lovely historical home is incredibly welcoming and comfortable. You will find everything you could possibly need in the kitchen, games for everyone in the closet and plenty of wood for the fire, Linens are clean and look new and there are lots of blankets and pillows. Attention to detail is evident in all areas of the cabin -- from the adorable country touches on the walls and surfaces to the overall cleanliness to the structure itself. The architecture is beautiful. We just loved the cabin -- it was so comfortable; literally a "Home Away From Home". With all that said, the cabin still provides that rustic, get away from it all atmosphere that we were looking for.
As others have said, Barbara Cardinal was terrific. She told us about some of the history, pointing out the "Mother" house and another of the original cabins, etc. She was lovely and accommodating and made us feel welcome and at home.
We are looking forward to our next visit!
