Take the Good with the BAD.

THE GOOD:The unit is in a wonderful resort which has multiple pools, great location to the CCRT bike path as well as off property ammenities, etc. I would say the details listed for the rental unit itself are accurate. With that being said, there was a bad experience that occurred and was never resolved that turned this review from a 4-5 star review to that of less than 3.
THE BAD:We made arrangements for this rental with less than a week to go as the unit had an unoccupied week and we were looking for a last minute vacation. A win-win for both parties. To finalize the rental agreement, we sent in our fee for the weekly rental as well as a requested damage fee. After speaking with the owner, he stated that this fee should be sent as a second check that would not be cashed unless damages occured, etc. We found this agreeable and provided a second check to cover the security fee. Here is where it gets a little crazy - to say as unprofessional of an experience that I can remember for any transaction of any kind in my life. A week after the our vacation, I sent the owner an e-mail thanking him for the opportunity, glad we could do business, etc. with no reply - though none truly expected. What I did expect was our deposit check returned via the mail. Another week passed w/o a check, but I thought maybe I misunderstood and it was ripped up and done with. Wrong. A third week passed and w/o ANY communication, the check was cashed?!? Luckily I noticed this scanning my online bank statement. I quickly called and left a voice message that was not returned. Four days later, I received a daytime e-mail stating the check was cashed for the reasons of cleanliness. Again, without any contact and a delay of 3 weeks was quite odd. The owner wrote that he would return a check for more than half but not all due to extra labor from the cleaner. He stated that this could be up review, "but most likely not." Oddly enough, I received a check in the mail THAT DAY for the difference that the owner decided to send. I find "up for review" difficult when the check was cut the day I called and left the v/m, four days earlier. I subsequently left multiple voice and e-mails without a return reply. As far as reasons to keep the deposit-there were none. We cleaned up after ourselves as well as if we had stayed with friends-let along renting a place which lists housekeeping as included in the fee. The lack of return dialog is very disturbing - BUYER BEWARE.
