Cozy house in a cozy neighborhood

  • 4 of 5

We had a great stay in this lovely house over the Easter holidays! We had lots of room to spread out and enjoyed the cozy atmosphere. The kitchen and bathroom could use a spruce up to be a truly "luxurious" house, and some bedroom shades to block the light in the mornings (and for a little more privacy at night) would be nice, but overall we were quite happy with our stay. The location is outstanding- one of my favorite restaurants, The Greek Islands, is right up the street and highly recommended. I emailed the owner's assistant for help with the wifi and got an extremely quick response, which was especially surprising considering it was Easter weekend. Very impressive! We travel to Omaha quite a bit to see family members and would certainly consider coming back to stay in this property next time.

Extended Stay

  • 3 of 5

I stayed in this home for 7 weeks while in town for business training. It is a nice home in a quaint neighborhood. The living area upstairs is very nice. The home is central to most things and easy access to major roads and interstates. I have stayed in many VRBO homes and I have to say that this to not measure up to my previous VRBO experiences. There are easy things that could be done to make the stay more enjoyable. A garbage disposal, bigger shower head (1/4" diameter) and higher up (shower head is very low), an HD TV (the tv is an old tube tv, I brought my own), head boards on the beds, furniture in the bedrooms other than a bed/night stand and better kitchen utensils (not even a pizza cutter). For a few days I would stay here again but for longer than that there are better options.

Omaha rental

  • 3 of 5

I rented this house for 7 weeks as I was in town for business training. This house is situated in a nice neighborhood and centrally located to many things in Omaha. The house served its purpose as I could come and go without having to check out and back in at a hotel. The living area is comfortable and spacious with a great atmosphere. I have stayed in several VRBO homes over the years and this home lacks some of the essentials that I expect from a VRBO home. For under $1,000 the owner could make this a much more enjoyable experience by adding a few things like: garbage disposal, better utensils (not even a pizza cutter), larger shower head (1/4" diameter), an HD TV...the one there presently is situated in the small basement and is a 90's tube television. I brought my own, bought an HD antenna and it worked for me but these things should be basic in a home with the fees that are charged. Bedroom furniture is sparse. No head boards and one night stand in one of the bedrooms is the extent of the furniture. If you need a place for a few days I would recommend this home. If you are needing an extended stay there are better options out there for you.

House hunting with food allergies

  • 3 of 5

We were very excited to try out our first VRBO experience as we were in Omaha to find a house. We are a family of 5 wih 3 kids with food allergies, so for s longer stay it was VERY nice to have a kitchen to cook in instead of trying to eat out. Overall things were okay, but I was expecting more after reading the previous reviews and rental info. When we first arrived the garbage was by the curb(renters left it there prior to check out as instructed) but it was so full that we could not put any garbage in it until after garbage day 3 days later. Next we tried to shower and unless you are under 5 feet tall it is a challenge to shower! Also if anyone flushes a toilet, turns on the kitchen sink, or uses water in any way WATCH OUT! The next issue is the bathrooms...there is 1.5?as described but one is in the unfinished portion of the basement...not so convenient for a family. As stated earlier we were excited to have a kitchen too. Fridge, stove, microwave, oven all worked well. The stove and oven were not the cleanest. The dishes all so left something to be desired. I am not sure how well the cleaners/ owners check on them. Many utensils, plates, pans, Tupperware looked like someone through in the dishwasher without rinsing and had food baked in that took significant scrubbing to get off and ready for us to use. I would have washed anyway do to allergies, but this was a pain. Next issue was the Internet. The wifi was there and easy instructions how to log in, but if you were not in the basement next to the connection then we were unable to do more than log on from any of our devices. Thank goodness for hotspots! There was cable and that was nice for the kids to be able to relax and watch a little bit of tv. Grill was nice to use on a nice sunny day. Overall it was okay but was hoping for more. Communication prior to the stay was quick and easy.

Owner's Response: I am sorry to hear that you did not have an outstanding experience for on your first time in a vacation rental and I appreciate that you took the time to write a review. I am such a fan of having vacation rentals and staying in vacation rentals. I hope you give them another chance in the future. Be sure to read through the reviews whenever possible to get specific information from the traveler’s point of view. I am glad that you did have a good experience with booking and communication. I have worked hard to make this process as friendly and efficient as possible. We can’t please all of the people all of the time but we certainly try to. I think the bulk of the trouble is that this 1925 bungalow lacks many features of modern construction. I have the same complaints about the home. The bathrooms are very small and the ceiling in the shower is especially low and the tiny half bath downstairs was likely added some time later. The kitchen is small and the water pressure is low so be sure to tell everyone when you are in the shower. I can’t imagine this style or size of home would be a good fit for a family of 5 on a full time basis. My late wife and I both fell in love with the place at first site in 2005. The unique style, charm and beauty, and the quality of the neighborhood weighed heavily in our decision to purchase. I do apologize for the trash on the curb being full. I wish you would have called so I could get some help from the neighbors. They have always been so accommodating and my sister-in-law lives on the block. I had a chance to speak with the woman who has been cleaning the home for the past 6 years. She did make me aware that there are spots on the stove top that she is unable to remove. The utensils, plates, pans, Tupperware are as good as you would expect to see in a vacation rental. Also they are as clean as the last guest left them. I, like many other owners, do not purchase “high end” items in this area. At most I only spend 2 weeks of the whole year at this property and honestly some guests can be a little rough on these items. I have upgraded the wifi twice and it sounds like it still needs work. I looked through the history of reviews and you are the first to give less than 4 stars so far in 6 years. Again, I appreciate that you took the time after your stay to let me know about these items and I hope you do give vacation rentals another try because they have so much to offer.
