Disappointing

The property was reasonably clean, but not was not well maintained. Our bedroom had closet doors that were broken and were not attached. One bathroom had a 3 panel mirror with the middle panel missing. The bedrooms were sparce with no dressers for storing clothes and little or no wall hangings. The sliding screen doors did not slide well. The floor tiles in one bathroom were loose. The laundry room had a missing floor vent which left a dangerous opening in the floor. The bed sheets in one bedroom were not clean (dried blood?). Both sides of the house had unsightly junk (broken lawn chairs, lumber, loose bricks, weeds) laying around. There were weeds and trash under the deck (including poision ivy), but the owner did come and spray. The kitchen was not well stocked with utensils or cookware. They did not have a drip coffee maker. Some of the beds and some of the furniture was worn out and not very comfortable. Only one of the four bathrooms had a bath mat so we had to step out of the shower onto the bare floor. An electrical outlet in the living room did not have a cover plate. The patio table was old and had several coats of paint on it. The patio umbrella was cheap and worn out. The lower deck area was pretty nice, but needed a coat of paint and we had trouble with the patio chair legs wedging between the deck planks. The porch swing was nice and was acurately shown in the picture. The upper deck area was not used by us as there was virtually no chairs to sit on with the exception of two old, cheap, and non-matching chairs. The walkway from the street to the house was on a slope and was pretty roughshod and difficult for my elderly father to navigate. The transitions on the floor from room to room were uneven and were a tripping hazard. We put duck tape on the transition from the entry room to the living room so it would be more visible.
Most of these items are little things, but they all added up to a substandard experience. For the price we paid, we were surprised by the upkeep of the house. The condition and decor is more in line with a fishing/hunting cabin or a church camp. The location of the house on the lake, the deck, the waterfront, and the dock were all good. The lake is nice and we enjoyed touring it in our pontoon boat. I would not call this place a dump. It simply needs some repairs and attention to detail. If the owners would spend a little money to fix and replace things it would be a nice property.
