A Week On Lake George

The accomodations were exactly as described. The rustic cabin was nestled a short distance down on a side of a bluff. The view from the back deck was spectacular. If you are seeking an opportunity to get from all the distractions and demands of modern technology, then this would be the place for you. It rained our first evening there, we found ourselves playing a board game. It promoted great family togetherness.
Having waterfront access, we had the ooportunity to moor our boat just off the beach. We enjoyed a balnace of fishing, swimming and pulling the kids on a tube behind the boat. We also brought a couple of kayaks which allowed for liesurely paddling and clsoe exploration of islands and inlets.
The town of Hague offered a quaint general store with home made baked goods. A wal-mart super center was close by in Ticonderoga for anything else you may have left at home.
Lake George Village was only a pleasant 30 minute drive along the shore of the Lake to the south. We spent an evening in the village browsing and purchasing souveniers. There was a free concert in Shepard Park which is bulit into the side of a hill. Behind the stage you can see the gentle rolling waves of the lake as the night sky settles in.
This Adirondak setting certainly offered a wealth of opportunities to simply relax or activley pursue outdoor activities. While my wife and son fished one day. My teen aged daughters and I clibed to the summit of Prospect Mountain in Lake George. The views were spectacular and the sense of accomplishment that came with climbing the mountain was priceless.
My eldest daughter, Katherine sought an additional hiking experience. So, a few miles to the south we ventured up Five MIle Mountain. The trail was rough in spots, albeit, manageable. Upon reaching a lean to at the summit, not only did we sit and enjoy the vistas of the lake below, we enjoyed the breeze and eating blue berries which were abundant.
Saturday morning we had ample time to clean up and pack before enjoying one last swim in the clean waters of Lake George. We swam and splashed about. Soon it was time to make the journey home. Lasting memories of yet another great family vacation for steve, Patty, Katherine, Christopher and Stephanie were left to set with the sun on Lake George. Memories that I am sure will be talked about for years to come.
