My wife and I are both in the creative fields. I manage the design and development of new products (ie. housewares, consumer electronics) and my wife is a practicing artist based in New York City. We have two kids who enjoy coming to the lake on weekends, holidays and summer. The lakehouse is a retreat for us all, and we couldn't live in the city without it.
Eric Freitag purchased this cottage in 2004
I'm an avid fly fisherman and have been coming to the area for many years. We spent about 2 years looking for the right house in the right location, and found this spot in the dead of winter, and immediately knew it was a gem. The broker said that if we liked it in the middle of a blizzard, we'd love it during the summer . . .
This part of rural PA is special, because it's like time stops out here. Renters always ask us for a list of local attractions, but we find that almost all of the people who come to the lake barely leave the comforts of the house and lakefront. Come see for yourself.
What a wonderful cottage on a great lake. My wife and I spent a long weekend here and have fallen in love with this lake and area. We were concerned about how many cottages would be on the lake and how close our neighbors would be to us. Well, the cottages are close together but it didn't seem that way. Our neighbors were very quiet and very friendly. The cottage was perfect for the two of us. It is VERY clean and comfortable and had everything we needed for cooking. The screened in patio is wonderful and we enjoyed cooking on the open grill.
The weather was beautiful while we were there, yet the lake was never busy. We enjoyed the kayaks but did not take advantage of the canoe and row boats which we would have if we had a longer stay. The fishing was fantastic. From the dock in front of the house we caught many bass, yellow perch, and sunfish. If you are looking for a place where the fishing is great... this is it.
We did a lot of driving in the evenings looking for wildlife. There is a dirt road on the other side of the lake that goes thru the mountains and valleys. The first night we were lucky to spot a black bear in the woods along that road... and we saw many deer in the open areas. Back at the cottage, we saw a bald eagle fly over the lake, and had hummingbirds feeding on plants along the lake.
Thanks to Eric for sharing this lovely cottage with us... he is very pleasant and easy to work with.
We spent a week at the cottage on Shehawken Lake. What a very peaceful and relaxing place! Eric was wonderful to work with and called to make sure everything was taken care of. We have two high school/college age sons and we all enjoyed kayaking, fishing and just relaxing on the dock. We loved the grill on the screened in porch! A great vacation spot if you are looking for laid back, stress free family fun!
This lakeside retreat is even more special and beautiful than the pictures can convey. The cottage is a charming blend of rustic and modern/industrial. Best of all, you can tell the owners really use & love the property. The cabinets are full of toys & games for kids, and the kitchen is better-stocked than my own at home! The view of the lake can't be beat, and the lawn & dock provide opportunities for campfires, fishing, and boating. The nearby town of Hancock boasts the must-visit "the bakery.", for sandwiches and pastries. We enjoyed crafts, card games, and meals on the screened porch.
We will definitely be back, and will recommend Eric & Jil's home to our friends!
We have just returned from our most recent stay at Shehawken House, one of a half dozen visits over the past several years. It is a well outfitted vacation home, accurately described in the listing, on a lovely small lake. Our grandkids have fond memories of their visits and want to return. Only caveat.....bring a good light if you enjoy reading.
We rented this cottage last minute for Easter weekend just to get out of the city and relax. Eric was extremely helpful in getting everything done last minute. The cottage is really unique, they did a great job decorating it and putting it all together with some great touches. We did a great hike on Bouchoux Trail and checked out Jensen Ledge, well worth the uphill trek. The only downside I could see was that some of the neighbors are close, but when we were there we did not see anyone else.
I and my friends stayed at shehawken lake and had a great time. The cabin was everything listed and more. The fishing was great and the people were friendly. Eric was great ,all the questions I had about the cabin and the fishing was answered with no delay.I recommed this vacation spot to anyone looking for a great relaxing time.We hope to return next year if all goes well.
