Fishing, Swimming and Fun:
This area is famous for the great surf casting offered at the Charlestown Breachway. People come from all over the country to fish here. There are campgrounds at the beach as well as down the highway at the fresh water ponds. We used to be known at the last great undiscovered haven for relaxation. Block Island is a short ferry ride away. Just eleven miles from us. A great day of hiking, shopping, history and fun for a couple or a whole family. In September we have the Rhythm & Blues Festival at Ninigret Park for a three day weekend. Blue Grass, Folk, Country and all sorts of music and dancing. We'll have a list of events for you to choose from or you can stop by our Chamber of Commerce and check out what's going on in our community and the surrounding ones.
Boating:
Rent a boat for the day at one of our marinas. A small boat, or a larger boat for the whole family, stay in the salt pond, motor over to the very private East Beach and enjoy a more quiet day sandwiched between the ocean and the salt pond. The gulls will keep you company along with your fellow boaters and windsurfers. Take a stroll along the miles of pristine beach and enjoy the rhythmic sounds of the waves as they lap at your feet. Relaxation is what we offer.
Walking:
We have two natural preserves located within 2 or 3 minutes of us. To the north we have Trustum Pond which has diverse topography exhibiting variety of the coastal plain. To the south we have Ninigret Park where a wildlife refuge is run by the Federal Government. Coastal birds of many varieties can be found there. Both preserves border salt water. Very relaxing and beautiful.
