The Cook Mountain Preserve is open to the public. Cook Mountain provides wonderful views of the Champlain Valley, the Green Mountains of Vermont, northern Lake George and the Adirondacks from its open ridge. Explore the 200-acre preserve hiking trails and historic grave site. The preserve is home to rare plants and abundant wildlife. The trail is a little over a mile to the summit and is suitable for beginner hikers who are willing to do a short steep uphill for an incredible view. The preserve entrance is just behind the house. Just beyond the preserve entrance on the left is a state historical marker referencing this area as Abercrombie's Landing. In July 1758, 15,000 men landed here to attack Ticonderoga during the French and Indian War. The attack was successfully defended by Montcalm.
