} Guest Book: We made it here very easily last night and are thrilled. We also did the hike this morning and loved it - went to the top of Mt. Guardian as per your notes, and found that secret vantage point where you look out at Cooper Lake... Hiked overlook mountain yesterday - the views were astonishing - though we were not brave enough to go the distance to Indian Head. We also found our way to the swimming hole and absolutely loved it... As I'm sure you can tell, we love it up here and wanted to see if you'd be interested in renting the house to us Columbus Day weekend... Certainly a bit of a shock to be back in the city after our days on Mt. Guardian.
Guest Book: We really enjoyed ourselves in the Catskills and the house was lovely - exactly what we were after. I think we saw a bobcat although I confess to being ignorant of North American wildlife. We saw it reasonably close to the house. In any case, we loved staying in your charming forest getaway. Everything was fantastic and the hike from the house to the view was such a bonus. Also an activity you can include for future guests is inner tubing in Phoenica. What a blast!
Our stay at Raymond and Maura's was beyond words. So much so that I almost want to keep it a secret!! This place is out of a fairytale. If you want to get away from the stress of the city and take a breather, this is the perfect spot. It has everything you need to cook, clean towels and sheets, even snow shoes and a sled! There are also a variety of very interesting books! The place is clean, cozy and bright. And the hosts were super nice, helpful and responsive. This is by far the best airbnb experience I've had!
This is a wonderful home with beautiful decor and landscape! Our group of two couples and an infant went for a long winter weekend and couldn't have had a better time. The owner was very responsive to all of our questions/concerns and has provided a helpful info book at the house to answer general questions about your stay. Everything was very clean and the house is well stocked with games, movies, and kitchen supplies. The second bed is on the smaller size, but makes up for it in comfort. I really felt like it was a well loved home and hope to return again in the future. Thanks Ray!!
We had a great time at Doh-Ray even though the temperatures down the mountain were in the 90's. With the window open and a fan the cool mountain air was wonderful and we are very particular about being comfortable.
The screened in porch was our favorite place to drink morning coffee as well as spend evenings sipping wine with candles lit absorbing the woodland sounds and the peace and quiet. I kept thinking that I could spend many days sitting and reading on this porch and never move.
The kitchen is ready for any type of cook but we cooked out on a new grill with everything supplied. The decorations and furnishings were so fun to be around. I guess you could label it antique/upscale cabin furnishings. We've never seen so many unique lamps! Of course, the big flat screen TV was popular.
We went to New York City one day. It is about 2 1/4 hours each way. Also, the Woodbury outlet mall (approx. 1 hour) and Hyde Park were fun jaunts (with teenage girls). Of course, we spent a day exploring Woodstock which is filled with fun shops.
We didn't have much chance to eat out in town but did go to Little Bear next to The Bear Cafe. It has oriental food and it is right next to the water. The food was very good.
The owner was very easy to contact and deal with. The only advice I could give would be to have the back way to the cabin detailed for people who are a little intimidated at the drive up Mount Guardian. Our GPS kept wanting to take us that way. However, access to the cabin was totally fine in our sedan.
All four of us (plus our little Cavalier) wanted to stay longer and could have used another week of serenity at Doh-Ray. Thank you!!!
6 Day Minimum Stay Christmas Holidays - Surrounded by the forests of Mt. Guardian at an altitude of almost 1500 feet, you are high enough to keep cool in the summer and experience a winter wonderland of snow in the winter. Hunter and Belleayre ski resorts are only 30-40 minutes away.
To get there you turn off the main road in Woodstock and start the steep climb to the house. Off to the right stretches the Indian Head Wilderness, with its miles of challenging hiking trails winding through the Catskill High Peaks. Turn onto the private gravel road that climbs up Mt. Guardian and you soon arrive at the house, set in a beautiful grove of hemlocks, only four miles from the great shops and restaurants of Woodstock.
PLEASE NOTE: 4WD is strongly recommended in the winter as the cabin is on a steep mountain road that can be a challenging drive in the snow.
Other Activities: Hike to the viewpoint above the house, go to the swimming hole, take fly fishing lessons. There's Opus40 and Big Pink too, and the Midnight Ramble!
