Chincoteague Island and its close brother Assateague National Park were voted best beach for wildlife by Travel and Leisure Magazine. A top pick for birdwatching, waterfowl and upland game hunting, fishing of all kinds and of course the famous wild ponies, this resort is a sleeper. The town is family oriented, with wonderful dining and drinking establishments and a pristine uncrowded beach. The town has plenty for all to do and many easy day trips like the Ocean City Boardwalk are but a short drive. Visit Tangier Island, Cape Charles, Onnacock and some of the other Chesapeake towns or experience the local sites like the decoy museum, the wildlife tourism center or the national park. It has all the normal beach town stuff too, mini golf, arcades, boat tours but it will surprise you with its active fishing boat fleet, its many parks and the fresh local seafood.
