I live in New York City and run a children's theater company. This is my special getaway retreat that was set up with love and care. I feel so at peace here and nurtured by nature. I returned from teaching in India this summer so my house has wonderful Indian art work.
Diana Feldman purchased this cottage in 2007
I looked for ten years for this perfect spot before buying. Its perfect location from town and ski slopes could not be better. Its so cozy and secluded yet six minutes from town. Wonderful Indian art work carefully designed by yours truly. Is one of the last original Woodstock cottages. And most of all, great vibes!
One of Woodstock's last original blue stone fireplace made from Woodstock quarry blue stone.. Special kids playhouse that faces house. Piano and other instruments provided. Additional cool studio with skylights and electric compost bathroom. Oh yes and of course a hot tub!
Enjoyed a quiet Christmas with my partner there. The house is nicely set back on it's own wooded land and only a few minutes away from the village of Woodstock. A place I will be interested in returning too in the summertime
Hardly left the house except for a walk in Wilson State Park five minutes up the road.
Overall no disappointments and a mellow Christmas retreat.
Overall a lovely clean property, great for a winter (and probably also a summer) getaway. Cozy yet with privacy. The handsome fireplace was one of the best aspects of the property, and the firewood is in excellent supply. We liked that there were lots of places to sit in the home. The 3 bedrooms are all a fine size. The decor is very typical of Woodstock: rustic hippie and a mix of curios with Eastern decorative objects.
The kitchen is well equipped with a good stove, and various appliances including a dishwasher. It can get a little crowded with more than one cook maneuvering around. The lighting is a bit harsh and could be improved upon. It's nice that there's a table right in the kitchen as another option besides the dining table. We found some spices and olive oil available for use. The local Hurley market is a quick drive away and well stocked as is the liquor store next to it.
The hot tub is great and private. FYI outdoor lights are located in the kitchen. Also, if the hot tub in on economy mode (EC), you'll need to mess around with the controls so that it gets out of it. Otherwise, the tub temp will be in the low 90s which is not warm enough. Also, when we were there the hot tub was very chlorinated. It was drying on the skin and hard to get the chlorine smell off. However, this was not enough of a deterrant for us to stop using the tub.
The bathroom is fine with a tub as well. The bathroom mat could be replaced but overall the bathroom was a good size and functional. There is a separate studio that we did not use but seems well appointed. Also a very large dollhouse/play structure for kids. The TV and cable are good and not positioned to dominate the room. There's a working piano that's fun, and also a dock for your iphone/ipod - earlier version though, I believe. Despite it raining for most of our stay, we were happy to utilize the hot tub and relax and cook at the house. Note that the property sits near an intersection that does see traffic. However we were not disturbed by noise. The owner was easy to reach via email.
We loved staying at this house! It's warm and inviting, cozy and comfortable. Large enough to entertain a big group as well. Big back yard to hang out in the warmer months, removed enough from the neighbors for plenty of privacy; but close enough not to feel isolated. The owner was always accessible to answer questions. We had a great time hiking during the day and visiting the nearby village of Woodstock; playing piano and sitting by the fireplace in the evenings. I'd recommend this house to anyone looking for a weekend getaway!
