My wife and I and our (now) teenage children have been staying at this charming home for a couple of long winter weekends each year, usually in December and then sometimes again in February. I originally discovered this home a few years ago and surprised my wife with a Valentines getaway. We enjoyed our time in the Portland (and Freeport) area, as well as our evenings in the home, so thoroughly that we decided we needed to share it with our kids. Since that initial stay, it has become a special tradition for our family and we try to reserve a Christmas shopping stay each year in December; and then, when the home is available, we will often return in February to break up the winter (and my wife and girls enjoy the post-Christmas bargains in Freeport). We truly can’t say enough about the comforts of this home and the special extras provided by the owners, Marilys and Robert. The home is so welcoming and inviting in every way. We usually arrive in the evening and the heat is always set to our ideal temperature upon arrival; the fireplace often has a fire going, the lights are on; there are flowers, chocolates, etc. It’s quite a cozy home, very warm, has comfortable furniture for gathering by the fire at night, and very good mattresses, something we have not always encountered in other rental homes. We also find the location to be perfect for our needs. The area is unusually peaceful and quiet, which is a nice retreat from our fast-paced Boston life, but there are theaters and coffee shops nearby that our kids really appreciate when my wife and I want some quiet time at the house. We always look forward to our favorite Portland restaurants and the breakfast places in Falmouth are the best we’ve found in the area. We just reserved our December stay and look forward to seeing all of the changes the owners made to the house this past summer. We truly need to thank you both for helping us create a special family tradition that we all look forward to each year. Thanks again for everything and we look forward to seeing you very soon.

With parents visiting, I spent a lot of time looking for a place close by where family could all easily visit. This wonderful cottage was perfect in every way. The owner responed quickly to numerous emails, and was beyond helpful in making this a truly unique experience. She put a ready light log in the fire and had the cottage immaculate upon arrival. The views from the living room, dining room and upstairs master bedroom look right onto the ocean. The expectionaly comfortable living room is arranged to entertain a large group, and the adirondack chairs in the backyard and upstairs porch are wonderful ways to enjoy the view. We grilled outside one night for dinner, and Marilys conveniently had a large bag of charcoal to use.

Her amazing attention to detail is exceptional, from the beautiful floor designs to painted antiques. She clearly had a lot of fun decorating this cottage and we all spent a good deal of time admiring her artwork and designs. My favorite was her coffee table: a handcrafted Maine lobster trap, with an antique painted door over the top. She also filled the house with brightly painted lobster buoys, starfish and seashells.

We had a wonderful walk around the town, stoping at the Town Landing store for local gossip on the weather and a good cup of coffee. We drove to Mackworth Island, a few miles down the road, and had a wonderful hike. We were close enough to Freeport for shopping and enjoyed an excellent dinner at Fore Street in downtown Portland. Everything was close by, but we could have stayed at the house and been completely happy.

I recommend this to visitors, and to local families who want a house close by for friends and family. We all truly enjoyed our stay.

While our group was unable to rent this place due to overlap dates, Mariyls was very communicative and helpful in trying to accommodate our group which was much appreciated. Hopefully next year we'll be able to rent this lovely place.

We arrived at this cottage after a long drive and it was just what we needed for our getaway! The cottage was so adorable from the outside and even better when we walked in-- just like it came out of Coastal Living!
The owner had fresh flowers everywhere, a beautiful little cake in the fridge, and it smelled fresh and clean and sort of lemony--not like chemical cleaners. We were very pleased to see how very clean it was, this is super important to us!

We had the most wonderful week at this cottage and had a great time exploring the area. And we all slept so well, which started every day just right. The bed in the master bedroom was so comfy and wonderful with all of the good pillows and great sheets and the fluffy, fresh-smelling comforter. I looked forward to getting into that bed every night and waking up to see the sunrise over the ocean every morning from the bed. Coffee with ocean views on that incredible deck was a daily ritual. My daughter loved her bedroom too, what a fun room! We didn't use the room with twin beds. It was very small, but also very cute.

The kitchen had everything we needed (and so much more) so we took full advantage of that and made some meals in. And the lobster from the market up the street--WOW. We would highly recommend that anybody that stays here walk up to the market and bring home steamed lobsters.

We actually ended up spending a bit more time in the house than we had expected, but it was so restful and peaceful, so we enjoyed a couple of quiet nights in.

When we went out, we tried the sunset cruise and loved it. We also enjoyed the trolley tour and bargain-hunting in Freeport. We followed the owner's recommendations and had great success with restaurants and some of her other recommendations. We fell in love with the area and this cute cottage and hope to return some day.

My wife and I and our three kids stayed at this cottage recently and I had to post a review, something I have never done before, as it was a great situation for us from beginning to end. We have rented 7-8 vacation homes over the years, but never has an owner been so professional and timely/efficient with all of the necessary communications and paperwork, payment receipts, etc.; nor has an owner ever shown such interest in our comfort and satisfaction.

The house looked very nice from the photos and we had great expectations; but it was a pleasant surprise to all of us when we walked in, as it was even nicer than the photographs. Now that has never happened before with homes we have rented, although most homes we have rented have been quite nice. This house was very clean; the furniture was abundant and very comfortable; and the beds were great. My wife kept commenting on ow everything sparkled and smelled fresh, including the bed linens. I actually noticed that also.

There were considerate touches all along the way from the owner, such as flowers in almost all the rooms, little treats for our kids, and a number of furniture pieces that were scaled for children, in addition to many other items for families with children.

We really enjoyed the ocean views from the living room, the master bedroom and the large deck. We ate out a lot and thoroughly enjoyed exploring Portland, but we also found everything we needed in the kitchen to make a few meals at home, which was appreciated. According to my wife, and it was the most well-equipped kitchen in a rental home that we have experienced yet. All-in-all, it was a great experience and we would like to return and would highly recommend this home to others.

Specific recommendations for future travelers: The Falmouth-Foreside Tavern (good restaurant close to the cottage), Sushi at Yusaku (We went twice. Great sushi and the kids loved their bento boxes), the Duck Tour and the Lucky Catch Lobster Boat (if you have kids), The lobster rolls at the Town Landing Market in the neighborhood, the lobster rolls at Red's in Wiscasset (both very great). If you follow the owner's recommendations, you can't go wrong.

What a little treasure we have found! We stayed at this cottage three years ago and almost didn't recognized it upon our return this year! We thought it was pretty special back then and knew we would return when we
had the chance; but we didn't realize the owner had renovated it quite as much as she had. It was so pretty and even better than before (but the price had stayed the same, which we appreciated!). The exterior looked completely different, with an entirely new paint/color scheme, what appeared to be a new deck and adorable new trim--like a Maine gingerbread cottage!

The inside had also been remodeled a bit, with new beadboard panelling here and there. It was just cute as ever, with several new colorful furniture pieces and other new things. And as before, Marilys was great to work with and left us beautiful little bouquets of flowers throughout the hosue and that amazing little cake in the fridge that we had never forgotten from our first stay. And it was just as sparkling clean as it had been the first time we rented it--one of the reasons we return to this cottage. It's so clean and just like the photos. It's better than the photos, actually.

The beds are so comfy in this cottage and we also love staying here because Marilys has everything you need to make meals at home and entertain local friends--something that we did on two of the nights. We ordered the lobster from the Town Landing market up the hill and made a feast at home. The kitchen has everything--lobster crackers, lots of new plates and serving items, new pots and pans and basic spices, etc. to make things easier for eating meals in. This time, she had a whole new set of beautiful dishes in a new cabinet, so there were two sets of dishes (both service for 8, I believe). Sometimes in rental homes you need to wash the 6 or so dishes after every meal in order to have dishes for the next meal. That is not the case here--this house is loaded with supplies, including high-quality sheets, lots of new pilloows and comforters and also brand new towels. Although everything was really nice the first time, Mariilys keeps things fresh in the house and seems to change a lot of the pillows, comforters and towels and kitchen items in order to keep things new and in good shape.

We will definitely return and hope it doesn't take three years this time. Thank you Marilys!
