Nature...all so close by: I will never forget my first visit to Berkshire County. I was quickly attracted to its natural beauty. The surrounding Berkshire Mountains are soft and majestic. Beartown Park, Monterey is one of my favorite places for hiking and swimming. It includes many trails, one of which goes completely around Benedict Pond. Some of its trails also connect to the Appalachian Trail. Bash Bish Falls is also not to be missed. It is magnificent in late spring but quite refreshing throughout the summer. Hiking up Monument Mountain off of Route 7 in Great Barrington is also a must, offering spectacular views especially around fall foliage time. Bartholemew Cobble, Sheffield offers spectacular panoramic views on the Summit(~10 miles away) as well as easy trails. Pleasant Valley, Lenox is a nature sanctuary with gentle walking trails. Pittsfield Forest and Pontusac Lake are also gems. There are local places in GB where you could rent bikes and kayaks. Fishing in all seasons in Lake Mansfield. Much more

Culture: Where can you be surrounded by nature during the day and yet surrounded by culture at night? Berkshire County is that place especially in the summer. It is where all the major talents end up ...... people from NYC, Boston and other international centers' artists, musicians , writers often perform in the Berkshires in the summer months. You might run into a celebrity on the street but they are certainly here for you to appreciate on stage. Tanglewood is a music venue with both indoor and outdoor seating offering top notch classical, folk, jazz artists. What better way to spend a summer night....to have a picnic lunch or dinner on the Tanglewood grounds while listening to the best music around. Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in Hillsdale, NY (20 minutes away) has been an annual tradition of mine for the past fifteen years. It is a four day music event that happens in July. People come from great distances as well as close by to enjoy the amazing views as they listen. Food and crafts also.

Culture cont.: Experience opera and other music in our newly renovated and preserved Mahaiwe Theatre. ....just on Main Street and of course Club Helsinki deserves second mention. Bohemian design with great food and entertainers from all over the world....just 1/2 mile away. The Triplex offers current popular movies as well as art films and documentaries ( close to Hesinki). Jacobs Pillow is also a wonderful dance performance place, in addition to its indoor theatres, it has an outdoor stage where the 'Inside Out ' performances take place. These are free most nights throughout the summer. You will get to see top performers as well as students. There are many drama groups that visit and perform here throughout the year but an over abundance during the summer months. Shakespeare and Co actors work at four different venues in Lenox. There are also performing arts theatres in Stockbridge, Pittsfield, GB and Williamstown also MA MOCA . Don't forget the antique shops in Sheffield/ throughout county
