CHALET BERGHEIM - UNIQUE, PRIVATE, SKI-IN/SKI-OUT CHALET SURROUNDED BY NATURE

Zermatt Chalet Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedroom Private Chalet Overlooking the Rooftops of Zermatt and the Matterhorn

NEW FOR 2013/2014!!

Chalet Bergheim is a ski-in/ski-out chalet, built in 1933 in traditional walliser style wooden construction. Renovated in 2013/2014, the chalet is furnished with bespoke, hand made furniture and natural materials but with all of the features you would expect in a modern mountain chalet including free wi-fi throughout. The chalet is completely surrounded by nature with virtually no neighbours in sight, and you don't have to share the property with anyone! Outside there is a large private garden and terrace, with a fire pit and bbq facilities, perfect for soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the warm summer weather.

One of the only free-standing chalets in Zermatt, the chalet sleeps 6 adults comfortably in 3 double bedrooms with 2 bathrooms (one with separate whirlpool room overlooking Matterhorn). There is also a separate child's bedroom and additional beds which brings the maximum number of possible beds to 11 (max 8 adults, 2 children and 1 baby).

Nestled in the tree line at 1750m and overlooking the rooftops of Zermatt, the chalet is directly on the Sunegga ski-piste giving access to the 450 kilometers of pistes offered by the best known resort in Switzerland. Ski hard all day, grab a glass of wine and sit in front of the open fire or enjoy the evening sunshine on the terrace taking in the majestic views of the Matterhorn, that for us is the perfect day.

Or in the Summer, take the mountain bike up to a mountain lake for a swim, hit some single trail on the way down, go for a hike in the woods and then end the day with sausages on the bbq and a drink or two around a camp fire in the fire pit.

If like us, you are in love with the mountains and you value stunning natural surroundings, your own space, and a host of amazing adventures on your doorstep then you will fall in love with this place.

LOCATION

The chalet is in a stunning location above the village of Zermatt with dramatic views of the majestic Matterhorn. Far enough away to feel remote but close enough to access the many amenities Zermatt has to offer.

- Direct on the ski-piste from Sunegga

- 20-25min uphill walk from the centre of Zermatt

- Nearby restaurants within a short walk from the house

- Surrounded by nature with very few neighbours

- 500m from the nearest road access point in Winter (access by cleared footpath). Direct access to chalet by taxi in summer.

- Hike and MTB direct from the front door in the summer

- South facing for afternoon/evening sunshine

Zermatt is a car-free village and hence access by private car to the property is not possible. In the winter, it's only possible to access the property to within 500m by taxi, and after that you must go by foot on a prepared winter trail (direct access by taxi possible in summer). As this is a mountain chalet, in winter snow clearance may be required during your stay. In winter free luggage transfer is available Monday to Saturday 10am until 4pm unless very poor weather conditions.

Guestbook comments from the owner
My girlfriend and I along with one other couple stayed at Chalet Bergheim for one week during February. The walk from where the taxi drops you off is something that you will see mentioned in other reviews and possibly be nervous about, but if you pass this up because of it you will be making a mistake. When we first arrived the view from outside the Chalet is something that words can not describe.

I did not want to stay in a hotel or one of the small chalet's in town and I'm glad we didn't. Having your own privacy and the whole place to ourself made the trip that much better. The kitchen is stocked with the basic necessities. When we went into town we purchased additional food so we could make a couple dinners at home. Bring backpacks to pack the groceries into and the trip is an ease. We liked that they had a selection beer, wine, and champagne (at an additional cost of course) as we took advantage of this often.

The chalet itself is nicely decorated and the views from inside looking out where amazing. It is big enough so that everyone has there own space if needed but at the same time is very cozy. The upstairs bathroom is something that I would love to have in my own home.

The only disappointing part of the trip was having to leave. If you come here stay as long as you can, you will not be disappointed. We now have many great memories that I will never forget.

We are a young family of mountain lovers living and working in Zurich but with our hearts in Zermatt. Originally from the UK, we have spent many years working abroad in Europe and Asia Pacific until we finally settled in the beautiful Switzerland. For us, no other country compares in terms of natural beauty, and Zermatt is the pinnacle.

Will & Amanda purchased this chalet in 2013

After moving to Switzerland in 2010, we have been searching for the perfect mountain chalet to call home. We didn't want just any old house or town centre apartment, but a chalet with charm, charisma and character. We must have looked at nearly 50 properties before coming across Chalet Bergheim and falling in love instantly! It has the perfect balance of being able to get away from it all, but being close enough to town to enjoy the benefits of Zermatt. Plus it has all the essentials of log fire, ski-in/ski-out and large garden! Following the renovation work we have carried out over the last year, it also has a touch of understated luxury not often found in a mountain chalet. It really is an escape to the mountains.

A real gem!

  • 5 of 5
Beautiful place with a real sense of remoteness yet so close to where life is all happening. It's the best of two worlds! I really like the location: the Chalet is on the slopes and offers a stunning view over Zermatt and the Matterhorn, and the Champagne bar's just around the corner:-)I am also positively surprised about how easy it is to get to from town and vice-versa. It's an enjoyable 15-20min walk, depending on snow conditions and where one wants to go. The chalet itself is bright, warmly furnished, spacious, has comfy beds and surprisingly great water pressure. Also loved the wine-selection provided by the hosts! We were up there with a group of friends and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I definitely want to come back!

True mountain chalet experience

  • 5 of 5
We had the pleasure of spending a few nights at Chalet Bergheim over Easter weekend. The chalet has been renovated to the highest standard, with all of the seemingly little details well thought through - beautiful high thread count linens on the bed, quality crockery and cooking utensils in the kitchen (this was especially impressive as often rental homes skimp on this and we love to cook), and lovely outdoor space with warm wooly blankets where you can enjoy the breathtaking views of the Matterhorn. And a enviable shower and jacuzzi bath with Matterhorn views!

The chalet with spotless when we arrived, and everything was well stocked, including a honor bar where you can choose from several different reds and white wines and beers for reasonable prices. There were several staple food items as well, such as coffee and tea and baking basics.

The ski-in/ski-out feature is perfect, as its location to après ski opportunities, with the Champagne Bar less than 50 meters from the chalet and other bars easily accessible down the slope. The well-equipped kitchen allows for visitors to make dinner each evening by bringing perishables (we packed a cooler with meats, veg, etc. for our stay), or Zermatt offers some good dining opportunities as well. We had a particularly fun and lively evening at the bar at Snowboat where the burgers were delicious. We also did an hour hike up to the Findlerhof for lunch, which while pricey, was absolutely fantastic. Friendly staff, delicious food and stunning views. It's also easy to get to from the slopes.

Access to the chalet is part of the fun of staying there! It starts with a stop at the Air Zermatt helipad, where you drop your suitcase, cooler (you didn't think I was going to carry that up, did you? ;)), skis and boards, and all other annoyingly heavy items. The taxi then takes you with about 10-15 minutes of the chalet, where you walk on a well marked path and then about 100 meters up the ski run to the property. The location also is steps to winter walking paths for those who are looking for something different than skiing.

The owners are a lovely couple who have put their heart and soul into renovating this property into something unique and unforgettable amongst a sea of seemingly average rentals in the area. They mentioned they are not yet done making improvements to the chalet, so it will only continue to get better.

I absolutely recommend it and can't wait for my next opportunity to visit Chalet Bergheim!

Perfect location, great chalet, incredible view

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at Chalet Bergheim for a week in March with another couple who also had a young baby and we found everything to be spot on from start to finish.

The location is awesome, just off the piste, completely isolated yet only a 20 minute walk into town. The view, oh my goodness - amazing. It's picture postcard from all angles topped off with the Matterhorn right in front of our verandah, incredible.

The chalet itself is immaculate. Newly refurbished with lots of lovely touches that make it a warm, cosy home away from home. The owners clearly have an eye for the finer details and know what's required. The chalet is well stocked and well fitted out.

We were really looked after, the owners even helped arrange babysitting for us so that we could all enjoy the skiing.

Overall a great place to stay, somewhere we highly recommend and we can't wait to return there with our mountain bikes in the summer!

Charming Swiss Chalet in magical Zermatt

  • 5 of 5
Zermatt's probably my favorite place in Switzerland: A precious little town tucked away in the Nikolaital, at the foot of the Matterhorn, right on the Italian border of canton Vallis. It's car-free, it's pretty, and the ski-area is so extensive that a weekend alone is not enough to fully explore it.

And it's here where we discovered "Chalet Bergheim", a cosy, bright and comfortable Swiss mountain chalet with lots of space and lovely views of the Matterhorn. It is located on the slopes which gives it a sense of remoteness, yet it's close enough to town so you can go out and mingle with other holiday makers and residents if you feel the urge. The kitchen is well equipped though, providing everything one needs for self-catering.

LOVED the Champagne bar round the corner, and the Jacuzzi in the house, which is a nice extra, especially after a cold and exhausting day out on the slopes!

The short trail near-by is rather steep though so I wouldn't recommend it to the physically unfit.
