Spectacular views with unobstructed view of the Hudson. Nice to sit out on terrace for summer breakfast. Sarah was always smiling and helpful and attentive to what we needed. Comfortable for two people, maybe three with extra bed in alcove. We suggested a dining table but none of us could figure out where to put it. We were visiting new grandchild in a nearby town and it worked out perfectly. All communications with Sarah were pleasant and she accommodated all requests promptly. We will return when visiting family. Easy on street parking. Need a car since not much around. Bike path nearby a plus but we had our own bikes. Path to apartment from the street would be tricky in the winter.
These would be the first two words that pop into my head describing our stay at River Terrace. My wife and I are former New Yorkers, and spent nearly ten years in the city before leaving to work abroad. I spent three years commuting regularly to IBM Watson, so I am familiar with the Westchester area, its train lines, and the quiet settlements that dot the Hudson river's eastern banks as it meanders its way towards the New York Bay.
When I decided to have a reconstructive knee surgery done at the Westchester Medical Center, we decided that we would rather stay in a vacation rental in the area than pay for a hotel for the week. After a fairly thorough canvassing of other options in the area, we decided on River Terrace as the clear winner. Sara was a lovely host, and we found everything to be clean and functional. The wireless internet access was reliable and fast. The location is very convenient, a ten minute walk from the Hudson river Metro North train line Greystone and Hastings-on-Hudson train stations, and a 30 minute ride into downtown Manhattan. My wife enjoyed several runs on the trailway with access points less than a 100 meters from the house.
We enjoyed ordering takeout from Tangerine (Thai) and a local Mexican food in Yonkers. We also enjoyed a spent night dining at Comfort in Hastings-on-Hudson. The local restaurants are of good quality and well-priced.
We would definitely stay here again.
Pros: Convenient location. Very clean. Excellent value.
Cons: The apartment does not have a completely separated second bedroom (access to the main bedroom is through the second). However, it does comfortably sleep 4 as described and could quite easily sleep 5 on a couch in the den. We heard some noises from the house above during the evening and the trains passing hourly along the rail line near the river, but we doubt either would bother any but the most sensitive of guests.
Our family stayed at the apt. the 2 last weeks in July and we had an overall nice stay. The apt. was well equipped, which came in very handy because we stayed for so long. We can mention that the apt. has two "proper" beds, one double bed and one single bed. The fourth person has to sleep in a more provisional bed. During our stay it was very hot in NYC and it was wonderful to come back to the apt. and relax in the lovely garden and enjoy the possibility of air condition inside. The apt. is situated between Hastings and Yonkers, and we found it convenient to have a car to go shopping for groceries etc. The train station is close by (Greystone), so it´s easy to reach Manhattan. The hosts was very nice and helpful and we could absolutely have rented this apt. again.
This was the perfect space to relax during our time in New York. We came to present a seminar in NYC and found respite and rest out of NYC in this peaceful haven. Sitting in the veranda gazing at the fall foliage, the boats passing, and the river flowing was pure delight. The apartment was immaculate, functional and as a another reviewer stated cozy.
Sara and Roul were thoughtful, we found breakfast food and all that we needed in the morning. They were both helpful in answering all of our questions, and left us to be in privacy. The weather changed overnight and Roul had the heat going by the next afternoon. They were both warm, friendly, and caring about are comfort.
It is a short walk/dirve to the Village of Hastings on the Hudson, which is delightful in its mix of charm, ethnic foods, services, and resturants.
If we were to return to NY we would book again this wonderful space.
Thank you Sara and Roul. Ciao! Deb and Cherie
We enjoyed our stay in the apartment during the Christmas Holidays. The apartment was clean and the owners Sara and Roul were very friendly and helpful. They welcomed us with some fruits and groceries in the refrigerator, which was very helpful because of Christmas Day. There is a ten minute walk to the next Metro North railway station and a half an hour walk to Hastings on Hudson to the nearest supermarket (bus traffic is also available). We can recommend the flat to people who will see NYC and recover from the noise of NYC at night in this warm and cozy apartment.
New York City, and all of its attraction is only 30 minutes, by train or car. The New York Botanical Garden and the Bronx Zoo, are located 20 min south east of the apartment, on the Bronx River Pkway South.
The Rockfeller Keikut House and park, is in Tarrytown, 15mns north, by car and train.
Shopping Malls: The newest Shopping area, is Ridge Hill, designed as a small village, about 10 minutes by car. Lord and Taylor, Whole Foods, Apple, Gap and H&M and many more favorite stores. there is plenty of parking and a brand new cinema. Plenty of Restaurants,
The Westchester mall and Bloomingdales are 15 min
The Palissades Mall is 25 minutes away
Woodbury Commons Outlet 45 min drive
Hastings, downtown, has a Farmers market every saturday, May - November, and great restaurants.
