Quiet mountainside home. Restored 1900's farmhouse in perfect location with a close proximity to everything. Charming, open and spacious. Fully equipt kitchen. Lovely screened porches. Large cozy rooms. Abutting woods.
We had been traveling to this area from our home near Boston for many years. We decided to look for a vacation home in this area since we loved it so much and traveling with young children was becoming more difficult. After we purchased this house my husband fully restored this it, all the while keeping the integrity of the house. The outcome of all this work is a lovely farmhouse with fireplaces, porches and cozy rooms. A wonderful getaway for us.
Michelle purchased this house in 2003
We stood on the porch of this house trying to decide wether or not this was a project we could take on (we had four children under the age of 8). It was just a feeling. I had never been in a more peaceful, beautiful location. I just imagined sitting on this porch on a warm summer night, cool crisp autumn afternoon, a cold wintery day or a cool sunny spring morning and I was sold.
This house is so spacious and comfortable. We have been able to spend Thanksgiving weekend with our whole family, ski weekends with friends and the 4th of July week with friends and family. Wether we are relaxing on the porch enjoying a quiet dinner, gathered by the fire pit roasting marshmellows or sitting in the den reading a book, we just love being up here.
We rented this wonderful house for a week this past August for a rock climbing trip. We had a group of about 9 of us and the house provided plenty of bathrooms/ beds/ bedrooms/ spaces to stretch out and relax in. As soon as I stepped into the house, I hit a new plane of relaxation. One of my top memories for 2012 will be sitting on the front porch swing drinking coffee in the morning or wine at night and reading the interesting historical books in the house. The front porch provided a great place to dry out and sort climbing gear. Some of our group even decided to sleep on the side porch as it was just beautiful weather. The large dining room table was able to fit our entire group and we enjoyed taking turns cooking dinners. We used the grill as well as the clothes line to dry clothes.
The house is bursting with character, is clean, and is well stocked. We decided to pinch pennies and bring our own sheets and towels and that worked out fine! People who stay in this house should have general house knowledge: how to put in screens to not let the bugs in, how to ventilate the house to cool it down at night, and how to use garbage cans or go to the transfer station if it piles up (directions for this was clearly on the fridge).
I felt comfortable letting my son play outside by himself as the house is located on a quiet back road. We appreciated the toys and beads provided. After our trip we decided to get our own supply of beads:). He also enjoyed the rope swing on the porch.
All of my interactions with the owner were very professional and pleasant. We definitely hope to return in 2013! It was truly a great experience!
We had a wonderful stay at this property. The house was just as described, was more than spacious for our family of four and was perfectly situated close to Storyland and several state parks and other attractions. The kitchen was well stocked with everything needed for meals "in", the house was neat and clean, and the screened porches were by far our favorite places to hang out. We arranged with Michelle in advance for linens to be provided and to have use of the washer and dryer. Michelle was great to deal with, answered all of our questions and followed up to ensure that we enjoyed our stay. If our travels take us back to this area, we would stay here again.
Every year, we take a family trip up to StoryLand. Every year we try a new location because we haven't found a place we LOVED. Until now. The house is perfect. Perfect location (quick ride to storyland, and a stop at DD's on the way! Close to North Conway, food, Diana's Baths and so much more), quiet, private and plenty of room. There are 5 of us, and there was more than enough space. It would even work well for 2 small families.
There are plenty of games, books and movies, for both kids and grownups. A quaint kitchen so you can cook your own meals (I will admit the stove was a little tricky to figure out, but if I can do it, anyone can!), a dining area, TV/Game room, and plenty of bedrooms! It is an older home, so it has alot of character, and is very interesting. It is clean and tidy, they even have a baby gate for a set of the steep stairs attached to one of the bedrooms (which I was VERY happy to find!) I have 3 children (9, 6 and 3) and each one of them loved the home and can't wait to return next year. There is a cute swing on the porch they played on each morning before we left for the day and each evening before bed.
Michelle, the owner was very accommodating and friendly. We arrived a little earlier than we thought so we had the opportunity to meet her and her husband. They were very nice and were just finishing up a few things but made sure we felt welcome. She gave very clear instructions on what to do with the trash and left numbers where they could be reached if there were any issues (there were none).
We absolutely enjoyed our visit to this home and we are looking forward to staying there again next year. I would highly recommend anyone looking for a spacious, comfortable home consider this place. You won't be disappointed!
This ended up being a nightmare! This house is very old and although it is renovated, it smells terribly, it was very dirty and always filled with bugs. There is a large vent in the back bedroom which fills the room with bugs. The fans they have you put in the windows do not stay properly and also draws in bugs. The trash is kept in the Laundry room off the kitchen and after a couple of days the trash is pretty stinky! We ate breakfast every morning and dinner, not an enormous amount of trash but the laundry room is like a shed attached to the house and it gets very hot and the smell even brought a bear to the house. I actually was standing in the yard with my dog and the bear was in the yard about 20ft away. The bear was there for the trash, dreadfully scary! Also, the landry room is there but not for use by renters. When we arrived there were linens out and the beds made but the contract said the linens were not provided. We had brought our own linens and used our own because as I had said, the smell was a bit much; a musty, moldly, old and unclean smell. We put the linens that were there off to a corner in each room, however, the owners still accused us of using them. Apparently the cleaning/management company had them out. The owners have no accountability of the property, as the tenants before us disarmed the fire alarm system after a storm cut the power and the alarms kept beeping. The former tenants left a note on the table with the removed units. No one replaced the units for our stay or checked to ensure the units were working as they were removed entirely from the ceilings. The owners cleared us and sent us our depost back about a week after, stating that their management company had released the house in good condition. We brought to the attention of the owners that while there, our dog scratched the porch door because the bear was trying to get into the laundry room right below the porch and our dog wanted back in! Then the owner, Michelle, requested she be allow to go visit the home, we agreed, did not cash the check. She came back and accused us of so many things, none of which we were responsible!! When we tried to discussed it she would not listen and refused to return any of our security deposit. If I had not told her about the door, she would not have known. She has absolutely no accountability between tenants and because we were honest people, she decided to take all her anger out on us.
The house was what we expected and then some! There was ample space for the 4 couples that rented the house together. We enjoyed cooking many dinners in the well equipped kitchen and eating them in the large dining room. There is a ton of common space to hang out, which is great when people want to do different things. We also really enjoyed the wood burning fire places... there is nothing better than a cozy fire on a chilly night. A great perk is the beautiful location of the house, which is nestled in the woods and away from any main streets, but close to north conway restaurants, outlets, many activities and several ski mountains. I would recommend this house to anyone looking for a quaint, quiet and relaxing place to stay with access to a ton of attractions!
My family and i rented this beautiful house for our vacation. It was located in a perfect location, just outside N Conway. We had easy access to the outlets, Storyland, Saco Bound, Theater in the Woods, and Mt Cranmore.
When we arrived the house was very clean and well kept. The bedrooms were set up perfect for our family and the porch with the swing was a big hit with our 6 year old, as well as the swing set and tree swing. I also love how the house was decorated!
The owners were awesome to deal with. She helped answer all my questions before renting and assured us that we would have a great time...and we certainly did!
I will definitely we renting this house again next year....it may even be our annual vacation spot!
5 minutes to Storyland, Attitash, Bear Peak and Cranmore. 10 minutes to tax free outlet shopping in North Conway and 10 minutes to Echo Lake State Park. Close to hiking, canoeing, ice skating, fishing, swimming and many other activities.
