This luxury, self contained oceanfront cottage has large outside decks and is surrounded with water views and arbutus trees. It's southwestern exposure on South Pender Island is part of the Gulf Island's unique Mediterranean environment on the west-coast of British Columbia between Vancouver and Victoria. The peaceful setting is ideal for a romantic getaway or a special reunion with another couple. It has access to our private beach and dock along with the use of a canoe or rowboat and a crab trap to catch your own dinner. Enjoy your own company on the outside decks in this idyllic setting and let the eagles, hummingbirds, otters and deer entertain you or the cottage is filled with books, games, CD player, VCR, TV and a cozy fireplace. Even though the location is rural in nature it is close to quality restaurants, a spa resort, farmers market, several artisan galleries, golf, fishing, kayaking, whale watching, frisbee golf and many hiking trails throughout our new National Parks.
Guest book comments: 'We loved the tranquil sanctuary. This has been a water-shed holiday for our family. Our souls are at peace.'
'What a great place. We loved it. The best was catching the coho!!'
'We had a thoroughly relaxing and restorative visit in this most beautiful part of the world'
' A beautiful and perfect place for a proposal......how could one refuse?'
We purchased the bare property in 1992 and began our journey with a camper, a porta potty and a BBQ. We came to the property every weekend by boat and over the years built and used the cottage we now rent. It has been enjoyed by us along with family and friends for many years. Mack & Alma
Alma Lightbody purchased this cottage in 1992
We carried a 'wish list' with from Island to Island for several years in search of the perfect spot for our retirement home. When we found 'Ainslie Point', we knew our wishes had come true. After many years of enjoyment in our cottage we began building our dream home and moved into it in 2002.
The property is 2 acres and the cottage is well separated from the house for privacy. It has a beautiful water view on 3 sides, 400 sq.ft. of deck, some covered, and is filled with amenities and comfort. Pender Island is quiet and rural but also has multiple things to do and enjoy. Beauty abounds!
" We can not say enough about how much we enjoyed our time at Ainslie Pt Cottage. The setting for the cottage is remarkable - set on the water, overlooking a beautiful inlet. The island is beautiful, and the view from the cottage is truly mesmerizing. We really enjoyed the deck and bbq that feels as though it is set amongst the tree tops. The crab caught right off the dock is fantastic eating. When inside the cottage, there is no compromise - the kitchen and bathroom are big, modern and clean with all appliances, and once again the open view to the water is amazing.
We spent 12 days all over British Colombia, but wish we stayed 12 days at Ainslie Pt Cottage....."

This was our first visit to the Pender Islands, but it will not be our last! The cottage was fabulous and the location could not have been more perfect. The peace and quiet there was just what we needed. What a find!
Alma and Mack, thank you again for letting us stay at your fabulous cottage this past weekend. We weren't exaggerating when we said it is the nicest one we have stayed in so far.
Mike asked me what I look for when I pick a place for us to stay, and I said I look at the bedroom, that it doesn't look outdated, or has a bedspread that was probably embroidered by someone's grandmother. And I look at the living room furniture, because it's quite possible we may have to be sitting inside due to the weather. Your cottage was wonderfully decorated, and the new reclining chairs you have are extremely comfortable. So often rentals are where all the outdated and tired things end up from the renters main house. This is certainly not the case with your cottage. It was a delight.
The cottage at Ainslie Point is perfectly appointed for a family of 4. It is extremely clean, has all the comforts of home including high speed internet, a bonus for our teens. The owners Mac and Alma are generous hosts and very knowledgeable of the great hikes, fishing spots, local history, shopping and best eating on the island. They are the perfect hosts, balancing hospitality, yet allowing our family lots of privacy. This was indeed a memorable family vacation. We will be back and thank you once again Mac and Alma for sharing the beauty of your property with us. Bless you with all good things always!
We enjoyed a wonderful holiday at Ainslie Point Cottage. She is in a beautiful private spot overlooking the sheltered waters of Bedwell Harbour, a perfect escape for those who relish a quieter pace and direct beach access. Its setting forces you to slow down, breathe deeply, listen to the lapping of the gentle beach waters below you and to marvel at life around you whether that be hummingbirds within arm's reach, the grazing of uncaring deer nearby or the relaxed slow moving boat traffic below. Ainslie Point Cottage was a perfect getaway for us as it had everything we needed for a great time. The cottage itself was very clean, well equipped and its many decks meant that we could always find sunshine or shade whatever we fancied. Our favorite perch was on the front deck eyeing the crab traps from afar and hoping for results. Our favorite cottage time? You guessed it, feasting on crab on the front deck with the sun setting and a chilled glass of wine by our side. The proximity of Beaumont Marine Park and Poet's Cove (only a canoe paddle away) and the start of the Mt. Norman hiking trails (only a short walk away) meant that we could be as active as we wanted to be or not! Ainslie Point truly had it all including two wonderful hosts, Mack and Alma, who made us feel totally at home right from the get go. Our time there, albeit short, was perfect in every sense and we look forward to visiting them and her again and again…….unless of course everyone reading this decides to go!!
We stayed at this cottage for a week this summer, and the property is exceptional. We wanted to read, rest and relax, and this was the perfect spot for that.
We have rented several cottages on the Gulf Islands over the last few years, and this was truly the most lovely. The location on the south part of the island is superb (you are close to the town - about a 10 minute drive - where you can pick up groceries and other supplies - but far enough away to feel 'away from it all'). The views from the cottage and its deck are stunning, and we loved the open layout of the cottage itself.
The cottage is well-stocked (we prepared almost all of our meals using the cottage's kitchen during our weeklong stay, and the kitchen has every item that you will need). The property is spotless, and while there are touches to make the cottage homey (such as photos and books), there is no clutter.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this property.
We came and stayed at this wonderful retreat cottage for two lovely nights. Our only regret is that we did not stay longer! We had full use of the canoe and made use of the crap traps. The cottage is completely stocked with everything you might need for your stay. The bed is comfortable and the bathroom was great for a relaxing soak in the tub. Our dog was in heaven and did not want to leave. Mack and Alma are lovely hosts and we really enjoyed their bright spirits. You will not regret staying at this beautiful paradise. Pender Island is truly magical.
Our location is considered to be the most ecologically unique area in Canada with a moderate Mediterranean like climate and with a significant portion of it's area protected by the Islands Trust mandate to 'preserve and protect' and by National Parks. Along with unique species of plant life and transient birds we are surrounded with otters, minks, killer whales and porpoises. A perfect area for someone who loves peace and quiet and enjoys being surrounded by water, nature and a rural atmosphere. Of course such a setting attracts artisans so take time to enjoy the galleries, market and theatre as well as the many hiking trails. Other amenities include, golfing, kayaking, boating, swimming, disc golf, horseback riding etc. For a change of pace take a 40 minute ferry ride to Victoria and enjoy major shopping and sightseeing attractions.
Other Activities: kayaking, whale-watching, artisan galleries, theater, frisbee golf
