Beech Hill Pond - a wonderful lake

Just loved this lakefront vacation home and property at Beech Hill Pond. Great place for swimming, boating, fishing, relaxing, get-togethers and staging for Acadia National Park/Bar Harbor. The lot is in a small cove, one of the very best locations on the lake - smooth water, huge lawn perfect for wiffle ball games, badminton and lakeside campfires. My three boys and I absolutely loved the swimming, particularly going out into the lake about a half-mile (by boat or kayak) to jump off the 12-15 foot rock that draws thrill-seekers from all over the lake. They and their cousins were in the water almost all the time. The diving platform was a short swim away in 8-9 feet of water - great fun for the slide and the diving board there. Loved the canoe and two kayaks - my brother brought down a power boat, as well. The 3-story house was huge and comfortable, with a large family space for watching TV and movies (relatively small TV, but with satellite and DVD, worked fine), a loft for sleeping and a great play area for kids downstairs. There was another small TV upstairs with PS2 and old games for the boys to enjoy. The home is close enough to Bar Harbor we were able to visit twice in a week, once for hiking and once for going out on a lobster boat, both great fun. It's close enough to Ellsworth for easy grocery shopping, and to Bangor for malls, movies, etc. if the weather turns bad. We fished the last evening off the small dock, and caught numerous small mouth bass on a lure. It's a busy lake, not a quiet one, but we enjoyed that - plenty of room for all the boaters and swimmers. Not a lot of privacy, per se, but it wasn't a problem at all. The neighbors were all friendly, evenings were peaceful and enjoyable, mornings just perfect. The property was very clean and easy to maintain, lots of red white and blue banners and flags for the July 4 holiday. Parking was plentiful, lots of room for visitors' cars. We loved it. I would recommend this property to anyone and wouldn't hesitate to go back. It easily handled eight kids, ages 10-16, and 8-10 adults during the day. The owners wanted to limit the number of folks spending the night, which was fine for us - relatively quiet location, probably more suited for families than for party animals, but we had our share of fun and didn't have to worry about disturbing anyone. Also loved the loons - they're used to people, very visible, often coming right by the dock. We had a great time here.
