Middletown Vacation Rental farmhouse

It was wonderful to have the opportunity to spend a week with family in one of my favorite NE areas. As anyone who has ever rented a house site-unseen would know, it's a bit stressful. You want nothing more than to be assured of satisfaction with your choice for the cost. That is why I offer this review.
My husband and I opted to spend more verses less for the sake of space since we would be accommodating 6 teenagers. The old farmhouse was spacious enough(though the rooms were not has large as pictures portrayed)but unfortunately old also meant unclean(clean criteria not base on some fanatical standard). I was willing to make the effort to improve the conditions for the sake of a moderate comfort zone, but the mops available were older and dirtier than the house.
I was also disappointed to see that the property had not been prepared for the summer season. Though outdoor living was listed as an ammenity it was more like an adversity. The yard and house exterior gave undeniable testimony to the wrath of winter...leaves and other tree debri everywhere. We were compelled to make use of a stowed leaf blower. I also need to mention that four very large over-flowing and smelly trash bins greeted their new guests and stood watch over the entrance of the driveway for days!
It seemed ironic to me that the town's quiet ordinance was brought to my attention since the house is located on one of the busiest/noisiest intersections in the area.
Any rentor would likely prefer advance notice that this property has a second structure(nearly attached)that is also rented(monthly)and also shares the outdoor living and parking area...not so private.
There were eight guests in the farmhouse, but the number of residents is unknown...residents of the rodent variety.
Contrary to everthing being supplied...toilet paper and propane? Bring your own! Oversite? Yes. But it's important to pay attention to the details...especially the details you claim to offer.
Bottom line, hospitality was lacking. I expected better for the money. It's unfortunate that the owners don't have more respect or the renters who provide them with income. This was our vacation!
So much for repeat business.
