About Larry or Janet Jennings, owners

We are a married retired couple who love the ocean. We purchased our first rental property on Hatteras Island in 2001, and this one in 2004. Lived in Rodanthe for 3 years (2006-2009), and became investors in other rental properties. We learned from our own renting experiences that what's most important to renters is cleanliness, quality furnishings, well equipped kitchen, and most of all honesty on the part of the owners! We make every effort to provide all of these, and the guest reviews herein confirms this! We will always provide the very best to our guests!

Larry or Janet Jennings, owners purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Larry or Janet Jennings, owners chose Rodanthe

It's an older beach box type home, but well decorated and maintained. We see it as a cozy warm home away from home, and our guests apparently agree as it has a 5 star rating by all that have submitted reviews.

What makes this cottage unique

Close to the beach & fishing pier (523 feet). Comes with a free fishing pass to the pier for up to 6 persons staying in cottage. Has great 6 person hot tub.

Wonderful cottage

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful cottage. We like it so much we have stayed there twice this year. The cottage is very clean and well kept. It is just as you see it in the picture . It comes with a washer/dryer, fully furnished kitchen, and great heating/air system. There is a fishing pond out back, it is just a short walk to the pier/beach, and comes with free fishing passes to the pier. Located around this cottage is shopping, dinning, and attractions for all ages. The owners are just wonderful to work with and even called us to make sure our stay was going well. This rental is worth every penny.

Owner's Response: Dear Larry and Kellie: We truly appreciate your generous comments on Cottage By The Pier! There's really nothing to add as you've covered it more thoroughly and said it much better than we could have were we posting it for rent on a website or in a newspaper! Thank you, also, for you kind words of my wife and I. Our continuing goal is to always provide our guests with comfort and relaxation away from home as that's what we believe "vacation" means! It is comments such as your that makes it all worthwhile! Larry and Janet

The prefect little cottage near the beach.

  • 5 of 5

The house fit our needs well, clean and comfortable. The owners gave us a call to see if everything was ok with the house and if we needed anything, a nice touch.

The perfect place to use as a base to explore the banks.

A great stay, and a great intro to the Outer Banks

  • 5 of 5

My husband, Dave and I stayed at the Cottage by the Pier for 5 nights, with our 2 dogs. We had a great time. This trip had been re-scheduled from Feb., due to bad weather then. We were worried again this time, as Tropical Storm Ana was threatening, but we only had 1 morning of rain, and one night time thunderstorm. (I used the cloudy morning to wash the windows in the bath, kitchen and living room - no charge! :) It's something I enjoy doing.)

We loved the location of this property. It is SO close to the beach and the pier, you can't beat it for the price. We took full advantage of the pier passes, which really make it a deal. If you had to buy those daily, the cost would add up.

The house was very very clean and neat, and so nicely decorated. There is every kitchen gadget and appliance known to man, I think! The washer/dryer is a fantastic convenience. A good selection of DVDs, VHS tapes, and books. I was surprised at all the cleaning supplies and even laundry detergent there. We did get to use the hot tub, and it is situated on the perfect side of the house for optimum tanning!

We were so happy with the location. We did not go back through Nags Head or Kill Devil Hills, but we did venture south as far as Cape Hatteras. So many little places to stop and explore. Choice of dining outside is a little limited right in Rodanthe, but there are plenty more places just down the road. We did a mix of in-house cooking, and eating out. Also, there is a new Dollar General store very close by and so convenient for anything you might forget.

There were only a few minor things I was missing -

1. a grab bar in the shower

2. a grab bar or rail near the hot tub

3. a screen/storm door on the side of the house. Depending which way the wind was blowing the rain, it'd have helped.

Wish we could have stayed longer, and we would definitely stay here again! I am glad we came at this time of year, before it gets more crowded.

Owner's Response: Dear Mary: We deeply appreciate and thank you for you kind remarks regarding your stay in our cottage, and for the suggestions you made. We will see if it is possible to put a grab bar at the tub, and will purchase or have made a step-up with supporting rail at the hot tub. We did several years ago have a screen door on the side door, but it didn't last long due being ripped off by the heavy winds that frequent the area. Again thank you! We look forward to again serving you when you plan to vacation on the outer banks in the future. Sincerely, Larry and Janet J.

Great cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 4 nights and felt very comfortable here. We are a family of 4 with a dog and we fit perfectly! Kind, responsive owners. Great hot tub and sunsets...proximity to beach and fishing is unbelieveable for the price! A fantastic deal. We stayed a bit off season so our restaurant, bait shop, grocer choices were slim but we made the best of it. Also, the pier was damaged by a February storm so it is closed pending reconstruction. Opening soon the locals said. We loved this little cottage and highly recommend it!

Close to the beach

  • 5 of 5

This nice home is just steps from the pier and beach in Rodanthe, a great spot for long beach walks. The house was clean and is well kept. We used it as a home base as we explored Ocracoke Island and Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge. I'm pretty sure our dog had a nice time, too. The owners answered all of our questions, and even got back to us right away when we had a question about the hot tub upon arrival. Our stay was in December, and the heater in the house worked great. Rodanthe is very quiet this time of year, just how we like it.

I give this cottage 5 stars, and it's likely that we'll visit again some time in the future.
