~ The Interior :
Named long ago, Windy Knoll was built in the ‘40’s and eventually fell into great disrepair. It required almost a year of gentle refurbishing to equip the house with modern amenities while retaining the causal essence of Cape Cod charm. The kitchen, bath and bedrooms were completely renovated, while the main room retains the original hardwood floors, painted pine walls, fireplace, built-in bookshelves and corner hutch. Recently installed windows and French doors promise fresh summer breezes, vibrant water views, and the incredible sounds of rolling surf. There is cozy, comfortable living room seating, sea grass rugs covering hardwood floors, and a refurbished claw foot tub/rain shower in the bright and airy bathroom. The kitchen is a pleasure – clean, fresh, and new - filled with windows overlooking the bay.
~ The Exterior :
Behind the house - chairs and loungers are placed atop a very large, fenced mahogany deck; a perfect place for gatherings, grilling, and private sunbathing. There is also an additional waterfront deck overlooking the incredible beauty of the bay. The house is perched on the edge of a sandy, coastal dune, giving inhabitants an amazing “boat-like” feel. Stone pathways and gentle lighting illuminate your way throughout the yard, and the landscaping, a mix of old and new, continues to be a work in progress. Special sea grasses and other wild, natural plantings are deliberately cultivated and maintained to help nourish this delicate, coastal ecosystem. You will find that the very essence of Wellfleet’s ethereal beauty lies in the simplicity of its naturalness - creating exquisite, elemental seascapes coveted for centuries by artists, writers, and naturalists.
~ The Beach :
Discover the magic of aquatic life! Anchor your boat in front of the house, or simply relax on the deck as sailboats fly, and fisherman troll for catch. Grab a fishing pole, or pail and rake, and try your hand at catching dinner. Wellfleet is famous for its abundant sea life, particularly oysters, which are cultivated throughout the harbor. A long, relaxing walk along the expansive shore reveals a colorful array of clams, oysters, sea-stars, hermit crabs, and a variety of other specimens that swirl through warm bay waters, and burrow within the sand. Remember to bring water shoes – those intriguingly beautiful crustaceans tend to be difficult on tender feet. Swimming is perfect – at high tide the beach stairs take you right into the clear, warm waters of the bay, and low tide is great for exploring the beach, or simply enjoying beach chairs and an umbrella, and catching some sun on the sand.
