The Lubec area is host to three state parks, a national wildlife refuge and several nature preserves, all of which offer a variety of well maintained hiking trails. Lubec has several sandy beaches (a rarity this far Down East), bold coastal cliffs, coastal rain forest, wildflower meadows, and peat bogs. Lubec’s West Quoddy Head Lighthouse is one of the most photographed lighthouses in the country. Lighthouse lovers can visit 4 lighthouses within a 10 mile radius of Lubec. Local whale, wildlife, and puffin tours offer the chance to observe nature up close or you can rent a kayak or canoe to explore both salt and fresh water havens. You can also golf, swim in freshwater lakes, visit local galleries and craft shops, attend concerts and visit local festivals. The area is rich in history—from the first naval battle of the revolutionary to Maine's own 'Cannery Row' which lined the waterfronts of the Down east coast. You'll find it all here—rich history and spectacular scenery.
