The Perfect Climate

We just returned from three weeks at this idyllic, quiet location. The cool summer climate is what drew us to Lubec from the hot south, and this lovely place was a perfect fit. The cabin was cool, comfortable, and clean as could be. The kitchen had appliance we needed for our meals. The ingenious arrangement makes the place seem quite large, with lots of books and activities for everyone. The dining area overlooks views of the cove that are more beautiful than were captured in the photos. Sunrise over the water is breathtaking, and twice we were treated to stunning rainbows. Outside, the deck is a wonderful place to relax, catch some sun, and watch the tides. At low tide, on the nearby beach, only steps away, we picked up mussels that we cooked up for dinner, and we scavenged for sea glass that is everywhere. This would be a great location for anyone interested in water sports, and though the water is quite cold, it is clear and still. We really enjoyed the scenic waterfront of Lubec, where we spotted eagles, seals and various gulls and fishes, as well as the changing tides. The Lubec Memorial Library was a great place to relax, read and catch up on the internet. Hiking at Quoddy Head was another great experience. All summer the Masons offer a summer barbeque picnic every Thursday evening, complete with a band playing in the bandstand! Go to Uncle Kippy’s restaurant for its homey feel and a taste of genuine Downeast fare. A little farther away in Machias, a must taste is the Riverside outdoor restaurant’s “wicked good” Monster Haddock Burger. Each week we had the opportunity to attend several concerts through Crow Town Gallery, Summerkeys and the waterfront pubs. Do not miss Tours of Lubec and Cobscook for some insight into the area’s history, and geology. We enjoyed the tour of the intertidal area! The local United Methodist church made us feel right at home. We were also impressed with what a dog-friendly town Lubec seems to be; our small dogs were welcome in most shops, and on the deck at most restaurants. Jody, the property manager, was just a phone call away, and returned our deposit very quickly. We will definitely return to this sweet cabin in the future.
