FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:: Are pets allowed?
Yes, well behaved pets are welcome. There is an extra fee of $50 per stay when you bring your pet.
Can I water ski at your lake?
No, we're sorry, but there are no gasoline motors allowed on Lake Shawnee - only boats powered by wind, paddle, or electric motor. We provide a row boat, kayak, and paddle boat for you to enjoy during your stay.
How's the fishing?
Lake Shawnee is stocked with Large-mouth Bass, and has an abundant population of Yellow Perch, Pickerel, Northern Pike, Sun Fish, Catfish, and Crappies. It's a shallow lake, so don't bring your deep diving lures. You can fish right off the dock, or head out in the boat to find your own special spot. The fish are there. The rest is up to you. A NewJersey fishing license is required.
How's the swimming?
We swim off our dock, but the bottom can be yucky. Most guests prefer the lake's two sand beaches, which also have lifeguards in the summer.
How big is the hot tub?
It's a three person hot tub. This season we've replace our old hot tub with a brand-new 'HotSpring Jetsetter' with 'moto-massage!' The perfect way to unwind after a fun-filled day.
Are there any restaurants nearby?
Lake Shawnee feels remote, but it's less than ten miles to a large mall and shopping area where you can find many popular restaurants. We especially like the 'Jefferson Diner,' which is only about two miles from the house for an authentic 'Jersey Diner' experience. The 'Jefferson Dairy' is pretty good too - if you like ice cream!
Do you provide linens?
We provide sheets and towels for your use, but many of our weekend guests prefer to bring their own so that they can aviod doing laundry during their precious getaway.
Is there air conditioning?
The lake house doesn't have air conditioning, but most people rarely miss it except on the hottest of days. There is a lot of shade on the property, and usually a cooling breeze across the lake.
Is there a TV?
Nope! But we have a CD player, some great board games, and a selection of books to help you unplug and enjoy a relaxing time without the distraction of a television. Many guests bring a laptop or DVD player to watch movies on a rainy day.
How about WiFi?
Sorry, no WiFi either. Cell phone reception is great, but if you really need to log on, there is free WiFi at McDonald's, only about 1 1/2 miles away. (This McDonald's plays classical music and has comfortable seating too. Amazing! A great place to sip a latte while catching up on your email.)
