First Family Vacation.

  • 5 of 5
This was our first trip to the island and it was breathtaking! From the amazing house to all the fun filled activities surrounding us, it couldn't have been better.. Thank you so much for having bikes, snorkel gear, and water shoes that were so helpful! The country scenery really made it feel like a vacation, away for the city and night life and traffic. Also, watching the sun rise over the clouds every morning was the best way to start every day! Mahalo and can't wait to come back:)

Awesome House!!!

  • 5 of 5
Sorry for the late review but, we were there in mid-June.
this was our first time renting from VRBO and was somewhat nervous because we didn't know what to expect as the internet sometimes tend to makes thing better than it is.
but, I was truely surprise how BEAUTIFUL his home was/is. it's everything he describe and more. The ocean breeze, the view, the spaciousness of the house was just sooo relaxing. I look forward to coming back and stay here again!
I can go on and on about the house, the location, the amenities but, I wouldn't do it any justice. you would have to experience it yourself.
thank you Bill for sharing your beautiful home with us mainlanders!

Family reunion on Oahu

  • 5 of 5
Our family had a great time staying at this house. The house has everything you need for a lovely vacation. The location was excellent. We were very close to the Polynesian Cultural Center and so many fantastic beaches. We had three families using the house and the group included 6 adults and 3 children under the age of 9. All of us had a great time. I would definitely recommend renting from Bill. He was very responsive to any issue.

Fabulous Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5
Look no further! After spending weeks looking for a home for our family reunion and my son's graduation from HPU, we finally found this one. To begin with, Bill was so kind and easy to deal with. He not only provided a pack and play for my granddaughter, but called to make sure we had everything we needed to make our stay a pleasant one. If possible, make sure you go to his store, Island X Hawaii, at the old sugar mill in Wailua. It's a real treat!
This home had everything we needed and more. It's very private, like your very own private compound. On the other hand, we introduced ourselves to the neighbors, who were so warm and friendly. They even invited us to join them in their daughter's high school celebration.
The home is fabulous! It overlooks the ocean and is a great place for surfing, swimming, and surfcast fishing. There are also rock "fish ponds" built ages ago to herd fish into. You'll see them at low tide. You will also see people gathering a certain type of seaweed, which is used for salads and medicine. It's delicious! The people who were gathering it were eager to share the info with me, and even invited me to their home to show me how to prepare it. Unfortunately, we were leaving that day. Late in the afternoon, you can watch pairs of sea turtles playing in the waves about 20 feet offshore, from the upstairs lanai!
For people who like to hike, there is an incredible trailhead up at the end of the street. If you're really adventurous, it connects with another trail for a challenging hike. It is incredibly beautiful!
There are small markets and regular grocery stores close by. You have to try the fish and shrimp tacos just before you get to Tamura's Market! They are the best I've ever had! Also, on Saturday, Ken's Fish Market sells super fresh fish and delicious poke, just steps from the home.
I could go on and on, but I think I hit some of the high points. There were no low points. I have been to Oahu many times and I would not stay anywhere else from now on. I just can't say enough about the great vibe that this home and community have. My family is the most important thing to me. Mahalo to our new found ohana in Hau'ula.

25th Anniversary Vacation

  • 4 of 5
My husband and myself and our 3 kids, ages 28, 24 and 21 and my sister -in-law and neice age 16, came to Oahu for our 25th Anniversary. I had used VRBO many times in the past and have been very happy with what we rented. I have to say the house itself was beautiful and looked just like the pictures and we enjoyed our time in because it was so centrally located to everything that we had planned. Bill was so helpful and nice throughout the whole process. The home was clean when we arrived and I was worried about no air conditioning----no problem though...the breeze coming from across the street was wonderful and we slept with the windows open every night, and waking up to the sunrise on the porch was amazing everyday. I only have a few negatives---the first one to me was the most important to our stay at the home. we all felt the furniture was very uncomfortable, and especially the beds were too hard and we didn't sleep well the whole time we were there, so maybe upgrade the beds at least. The other thing was I had wished there could of been updated appliances in the kitchen....coffee maker, toaster. etc. and more utensils and pots and pans, dishes, there was only 7 of us, and we did not have what we needed at all meals. So those are my only 2 negative things that I can say about this home, easily fixable. The location and the size and the price is what attracted me to this in the first place and those did not dissapoint. Not sure I could recommend or re-visit unless I knew that the furniture and kitchen area was updated. Part of the reason we use VRBO is because we like to feel at home when we are away, and I feel that because all of the wood furniture was so uncomfortable (while beautiful) did not make us feel like we wanted to curl up and hang out and relax at the house or have a great nights sleep. We loved our time in Oahu and loved most of the house and Bill was great and easy to work with. I would recommend to others and would stay there ourselves if these items were changed.

Owner's Response: Aloha,
We were a bit surprised by the negatives in Miss B's review as we try our best to make this home as comfortable and pleasant as possible and we have had nothing but good feedback from other guests. Nonetheless, once we got over our slightly hurt feelings, we got busy trying to address the concerns and we are actually grateful for the honest feed back and we happy for the chance to make the home a better, more comfortable place to stay.
The beds: We already have all brand new high quality mattresses throughout the home and this is the first time we had a complaint about them being too hard. Mattress firmness is a bit tricky though as some people prefer firm and other want soft so what we've done is we upgraded all of them by adding top of the line mattress padding that can be easily removed if the guest find the beds to be too soft.
Furniture: We have really nice teak "Island Style" furniture throughout the home as well as an extra large bamboo daybed, a comfy sofa that has a soft cushion and is the size of a single bed. Perfect for lounging out on or serving as an extra bed. Hawaii is very damp and so teak, bamboo and rattan furniture is preferred in many homes here, especially in homes that are near the ocean. The typical upholstered type sofas and chairs tend to attract mold and in a rental situation, get dirty easily. Upstairs, we have a large 10 place solid hardwood table that is about 6 inches thick and serves as the focal point of the home. The chairs are all unique, made from old teak wood and are like individual works of art. For comfort, we have now added new seat cushions. Downstairs we had a four seat teak table with teak wood chairs as well. We have added seat cushions there too.
Coffee makers: Before we had the basic Mr. Coffee style coffee maker but now we purchased a new Cuisinart machine for upstairs and a new Mr. Coffee for downstairs. We also have coffee grinders upstairs and downstairs.
Toasters: Before we had just a standard Black and Decker Toaster in the upstairs kitchen but now we added a very large 6 piece toaster oven upstairs along with the standard one. For downstairs we added a Hamilton Beach - 2 in 1 toaster/toaster oven. It has an oven and a toaster together in one.
Dishes, Pots and Pans, Utensils: We have added a bunch more of everything and of the best quality.
So, hopefully guests will find our home to be a more pleasant and comfortable place to stay.
Mahalo,
Bill Martin
