Plantagenet Manor is a beautiful eight bedroom ‘petit’ chateau with an in-ground Roman style pool that has just gone through a complete renovation with five new bathrooms, new gourmet commercial size kitchen, new modern four poster beds and

luxury Egyptian cotton bedding, duck down quilts and pillows, new fluffy towels, and a great mix of new and antique furniture sourced from all over France by the renown Australian Interior Designer, Liane Lancaster and her husband Robert.

The chateau is located in the centre of historic Chalus on over half an acre of grounds, and is within walking distance to restaurants, cafes, bars, shops and a lovely new Health Spa.

The town was made famous by being the place where Richard the Lionheart met his death while storming a castle. The chateau sits below the castle which dominates the town from it's high rocky location on top of a hill. A second smaller castle now in ruins is located a short distance from the chateau.

The town is on the Richard the Lionheart route and is close to many castles, chateau, abbeys, medieval towns and villages and is located in a National Park, renown all over France for it's beautiful natural scenery, woodlands and lakes.

The city of Limoges with its international airport and high speed rail links is only 35 kilometres away and Paris is only four hours away.

GROUND FLOOR

Enter into a large hallway through the two massive solid oak doors with wrought iron fixtures you find a beautiful circular stairway on the left that leads up to the upper levels. The brand new gourmet commercial sized kitchen with huge lovely old stone fire place is situated on the right through two antique 9 ft high oak doors. The kitchen has a very large commercial gas and electric cooker with double oven, 6 gas burners and hotplate situated within the huge 'chateau' style fireplace. There is a large double door fridge with icemaker, separate wine fridge, stunning three meter marble centre island with six Tolix chairs, professional coffee machine, extensive premium glassware, tableware and cutlery and an extensive array of pots and pans. Everything you could wish for to make a gourmand meal for the family and friends.

Off the kitchen is the laundry and utility room with new washing machine and large dryer, with extensive cupboards housing the iron and ironing board and other useful household items. To the left of the entrance is a bedroom with a double bed and en-suite with shower, sink and WC. Off this room are utility rooms. A separate WC is located in the hallway.

From the hallway, through two beautiful Oak doors leads to the huge lounge area which houses two aged leather five person comfortable sofas, large coffee table with parquetry top, huge American Oak entertainment unit which contains a 127 cm (50') flat screen LG Plasma TV, DVD, Sat channel box with hundreds of English and French channels, a laptop with WiFi internet connection, books on the local area, chateaus and interior design, and DVD library. A lovely Napoleonic Black Marble open fireplace sits in the centre of one wall. High ceilings, dark wooden floor, pillows, throws, and other items make this room the perfect place to relax over a bottle of red. There are electric shutters on all windows and the windows face out onto the rear grounds where the pool, entertainment area and raised gazebo are situated. A lovely old church can be seen from all windows and dominates the local area. The rear grounds can be reached through double French doors from the lounge room. To the left of the lounge area is the very large dining room that is entered by two solid oak doors. This room houses a three meter wooden table with inlaid wood top, huge round oak legs, ten black velvet French dining chairs and two antique carvers that have been recovered with beautiful English fabrics. Lovely panelling surrounds the room which also houses a very large lime washed hand carved cabinet. There are many glass fronted cupboards and a selection of the owner's black and white photos on the wall. Two large double windows open up the view onto the rear grounds, pool area and the old church.

LEVEL ONE

Ascending the magnificent oak circular stairway with sisal runner and iron railings you arrive on to a large landing and hallway. Off the landing you will find four beautifully renovated bedrooms, three with modern four poster beds, all with new mattress, luxury Egyptian cotton bedding, duck down quilts and pillows and new en-suite bathrooms.

Bedroom 2

Very large room with high ceilings, new modern four poster bed with Egyptian cotton sheets, duck down quilt and pillows, two side tables with lamps, mirrored built in robe, white marble fireplace with large mirror above and lovely comfortable chaise. Large window with shutters. Large private en-suite with floor to ceiling tiles, shower with large rain showerhead, sink, heated towel rail and WC. Lots of natural light through the large double frosted windows.

Bedroom 3

Very large room with high ceilings, new modern four poster bed with Egyptian cotton sheets, duck down quilt and pillows, two side tables with lamps, mirrored built in robe. Comfortable chaise. Chest of drawers. Two windows overlooking the rear with shutters. Large Private en-suite with floor to ceiling tiles, shower with large rain showerhead, sink, heated towel rack, and WC. Lots of natural light through the large double frosted windows.

Bedroom 4 Master bedroom

Large room with high ceilings, new modern four poster bed with Egyptian cotton sheets, duck down quilt and pillows, two side tables with lamps, extensive built in cupboards. Comfortable chaise. Marble top chest of drawers with Flat screen LCD TV, DVD, and sat box with hundreds of channels. Very large master bathroom with floor to ceiling tiles, beautiful 'egg' bath and stunning chrome tap ware, double sized shower with large rain showerhead, two single sinks and WC. Chrome heated towel rack. Lots of natural light through three sets of double frosted windows.

Bedroom 5

Bedroom with double bed, luxury bedding, side tables and lamps, cupboards and separate entrance to the main bathroom with a separate lockable interconnecting door to Master bedroom. Making both bedrooms perfect as a family suite.

LEVEL 2

Ascending the beautiful oak staircase leads to the top level with open landing with antique table and chair. To the left is a door leading to a large open hallway leading to two bedrooms and open plan entertainment/games room. A further separate bedroom and bathroom is located on this level.

Bedroom 6

Smaller bedroom ideal as a nanny's bedroom with double bed and luxury bedding, side table and lamp. Separate entrance to a large shared bathroom with shower, sink and WC.

Entertainment / games room.

Large open room with 2 two seater sofas, amazing antique river rowing boat attached to the huge roof beams, TV counsel with large 106 cm/42' flat screen TV, DVD, Sat box with hundreds of channels, DVD Library, other seating, table football/babyfoot game, books, games. Perfect as an children and teenagers entertainment area out of the way.

GROUNDS

The grounds of Plantagenet Manor are very private, raised from street level with high walls and hedges, with over half an acre of gardens, pool, gazebo and full size pétanque court.

Front

Large wrought iron gates leads up a stone pathway to the front entrance with two huge antique oak doors with wrought iron features and large lock. A video intercom is at the main entrance doors. Two very large urns are situated each side of the main entrance. Trees, hedges, bushes, grassed garden and a full size pétanque court that is overlooked by the castle. To one side is an ancient 'wishing' well with secure metal grill. A smaller side gate with stairs is situated to one side of the property.

Rear

The rear of the property houses the pool, pool area with new modern sun loungers, entertainment area, raised gazebo on decking with outside seating and table for the whole family. A gas BBQ and plenty of play areas for children. The rear of the property has two large wrought iron gates leading to the rear lane and old church.

Parking is available for numerous vehicles at the rear of the property or on the quite side street.

On the Richard the Lionheart route, walking distance to the Castles of Chalus-Maulmont, Chalus Chabrol and close to the castles of Montbrun, Les Cars, Rochebrune, Rochechouart, Brie, Nexon,Jumilac, Bonneval,Pompadour, the ancient Fortress of Lastours, the Abby's of Chalard, saint-Yrieix-La-Perche and the medieval city of Segur-Le-Chateau.

30 minutes from the chateau is the moving reminder of the horror of WW11 with the preserved town of Ordour Sur Glane, site of the SS massacre of the whole town which was then preserved how it was left after the massacre.

With the many local Bricontes (cheap second hand shops selling lovely French antiques and other items) the National park with its woodlands many lakes, perfect for the fishing and sailing, lovely villages and towns with the old way of life, makes Plantagenet Manor the perfect place to spend time with family and friends.

We had a glorious week in Plantagenet Manor in July 2014 and I can’t say enough good things about it. The property is absolutely stunning – beautifully furnished, very well-equipped and incredibly spacious. The beds were really comfortable, the bathrooms luxuriously modern and the kitchen was a joy to cook in even. The property is perfectly located for shops and restaurants and yet has a real sense of peace and privacy in the garden, it feels like staying in the countryside but it’s just a a 50m walk to buy the morning croissants. Cheryl and Mark told us everything we needed to know and were available at all times for anything we needed, they took the time to research a specific event for us while we were staying and went out of their way to be helpful. The technology in the house is great too – the wifi was reliable and fast and the TV had loads of channels. Chalus itself is steeped in history and is a really interesting place to stay, but we didn’t get round to doing half the things we intended to because we enjoyed just lazing around the property so much! We are already planning our next stay next year and can’t wait to go back.

Robert Lancaster purchased this chateau / country house in 2013

After looking to purchase a small chateau after renovating their 6 bedroom country house in the Dordogne in 2011, Robert and Liane came across the property after viewing dozens of others. They both fell in love with the place and saw the potential to turn it into something special. It ticked all the boxes they were looking for, with grand proportion sized rooms, high ceilings, wonderful circular staircase and manageable grounds. Within close walking distance to cafes, restaurants, bars and within a National Reserve renown for it's natural beauty, with woodlands, lakes and close to many castles and medieval towns and villages and other tourist attractions. Importantly the property is close to international transport links. It ticked all the boxes to turn the place into something special with great rental potential.

What is unique about Plantagenet Manor is that everything is brand new and the place has been put together with style and luxury. From the new beds with luxury bedding usually only found in 5 star hotels, to the wonderful circular stairway, gourmand kitchen and Master bathroom that looks like something out of a Vogue Magazine. The place is very family friendly with a whole floor built around having children stay at the property. The property is very unique being a chateau in town, rather than having to drive anywhere, you simply can walk to the shops or restaurants and bars. Yet it has the feeling of privacy with it's raised position, walls and high boxed hedges and huge grounds not found in any town we have been in.

Stunning property in a great location

We had a glorious week in Plantagenet Manor in July 2014 and I can’t say enough good things about it.

The property is absolutely stunning – beautifully furnished, very well-equipped and incredibly spacious. The beds were really comfortable, the bathrooms luxuriously modern and the kitchen was a joy to cook in even. The property is perfectly located for shops and restaurants and yet has a real sense of peace and privacy in the garden, it feels like staying in the countryside but it’s just a a 50m walk to buy the morning croissants.

Cheryl and Mark told us everything we needed to know and were available at all times for anything we needed, they took the time to research a specifc event for us while we were staying and went out of their way to be helpful. The technology in the house is great too – the wifi was reliable and fast and the TV had loads of channels.

Chalus itself is steeped in history and is a really interesting place to stay, but we didn’t get round to doing half the things we intended to because we enjoyed just lazing around the property so much!

We are already planning our next stay next year and can’t wait to go back.
