Compass Rose enjoys an ideal location, :
about a mile to the heart of town, yet set on the side of a quiet point which is flanked by a beautiful waterfall, Appalachee Lake Preserve, and panoramic bay, cove, and island views. Enjoy recreational privileges at neighboring Linekin Bay Resort (heated pool, tennis, sailing) for a fee or their restaurant and bar which is open to the public. Lobster Cove and Barrett Park with picnic and outdoor concert facilities are just 1/2 mile walk/bike. Take your morning coffee down to the rocky shore to watch spectacular sunrises and to observe the activity of the graceful sailing vessels, lobster boats and sea birds including osprey and eider ducks. Row around the cove, fish for mackerel and striped bass off the dock, or Kayak to nearby islands. Enjoy ocean breezes and abundant sunshine from the cottage's over sized porch or private dock and float. All ages will enjoy searching for shells and tubing in the cottage's small, protected, sandy entry swimming area.
Rediscover simple joys.:
Gather the family around the wood-burning fireplace, enjoy quality time around one of our old fashioned board games or puzzles. There are two cable TVs and DVD players and a stereo/CD/tape player along with popular books, magazines and DVDs of local interest, including a collection of Maine children's classics. Dine inside, or with ocean breezes on the outdoor covered dining alcove or sun porch (all with panoramic ocean views.) Enjoy personal touches, such as a guide to the area (with restaurant reviews), fishing poles, binoculars, floats, crab traps, yard games, free paperbacks, and the cottage album with photos and history dating back to the 1920's, and even a book of our favorite Maine recipes (including lobster stew, blueberry muffins and clam chowder, of course!)
A private family retreat for over 80 years, :
Compass Rose Cottage has only recently been made available for rental. Virtually all of the cottage's original charms are intact: beamed ceilings, board and batten walls, bead board cabinetry, vintage light fixtures, wavy glass window panes and wood floors. The owners appreciate Compass Rose's rustic vintage charm, complimenting antique furnishings with comfortable 'coastal cottage' additions and high quality linens. The master bedroom has a dreamy quality, with new queen mattress, coordinating linens in pale blues, sage greens and whites, and a metal headboard, all to enhance the serene, panoramic ocean view. The kitchen, equipped by generations of loving moms, has modern appliances and is well stocked with everything you'd expect in a summer residence, including coffee pot, blender, crock pot, baking dishes, griddle, microwave, BBQ tools, serving platters, bar glassware, cooler, ice bucket, lobster pot and crackers.

Nearby golf privileges can be arranged at the private Boothbay Harbor Golf Club.
