Enhance your 'Savannah Experience' by staying in one of its historically significant homes.

Built in 1875 for cotton factor J. Guerrard Heyward (great grandson of Thomas Heyward, signatory of The Declaration of Independence) and his wife, Pauline DeCaradeuc Heyward (whose journal was published as 'A Confederate Lady Comes of Age'), it is the only original Charleston-Single style home in Savannah.

The 'Parlor Suite' offers some 1500 square feet of inside living area with 14-foot ceilings, Living room, 2 bedrooms, kitchen/dining, 1-1/2 baths, heart pine flooring, and designer styling. TV room/den with fold-out couch that sleeps one (or two, if they're friendly).

Outside is a 45-foot side-piazza (porch) with wicker furniture, overlooking a koi pond (relax with morning coffee, evening drinks, or just a good book). This beautiful pond was featured in 'The South Magazine.'

Conveniently located two blocks from Forsyth Park, this Suite was designer-decorated.

We are the only tourist rental on the block. Get the feel of real 'Savannah Living'.

Amenities include:

Large bedroom ('Pauline’s Room') with hand-carved antique rococo double bed, bay windows with view of koi pond, and private door leading to the piazza.

Second bedroom ('Elise’s Room') has a comfy queen-sized bed.

Private Den ('Guerard’s Room') has a sofa bed (with feather-top mattress), suitable for one or two friendly people.

All linens are fine quality.

The large, fully-furnished living room ('Heyward-DeCaradeuc Room') has large bay windows, original fireplace mantle and heart pine floors.

There are one and a half baths with ample towels and bath blankets. Beach towels provided.

Kitchen/dining room with gas stove, dishwasher, microwave oven, fridge with ice/water dispenser. Fully fitted out with dinnerware, pots & pans, utensils, toaster, coffee/espresso maker, etc.

About Michael Hogan

We are Michael Hogan and Donna Shannon. I, Michael am a Toronto-born Canadian, who served 30 years in the Canadian Navy. I retired in 1996, and operated a physical fitness equipment repair company in Windsor, Ontario before being lured to this paradise by my Minnesota-born wife, Donna (a retired Eastern Airlines Flight Attendant).

We met in 2005 through eHarmony (long story, but we could do the commercials) and married in 2006. Our courtship and honeymoon centered around the restoration/renovation of our lovely home. In fact, we decided to get married in the summer of 2006, but we agreed to wait until there was a rainy day to go to the courthouse (we didn't want to lose any painting/working time). It didn't rain until October 9th, 2006...a day made more special because of the wait, and the humor that ensued each morning as we looked for clouds.

Why Michael Hogan chose Savannah

We had originally intended to rent the lower apartment on a long-term lease basis, but saw the potential of meeting people from near and far by renting it out as a vacation rental. We also recognized the advantage of having a special place for family and friends to stay while visiting.

We started renting out the lower apartment to vacationers in March, 2007. We live in the upper apartment, and love the house, Savannah, the eclectic neighborhood, and the many friends we've made here.

Savannah is unique in the country thanks to General George Tecumseh Sherman's decision not to destroy it during the civil war. The historic buildings were spared the destructive fate of so many other southern cities. That and the more recent establishment and incredibly successful growth of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) did so much for the city.

When the city was experiencing the decay that so many others did during the flight to the suburbs, SCAD was born and grew. With the blessing of the Historical Savannah Foundation, they restored and adapted many large buildings as the reputation and subsequent student population grew. Students from around the USA and the world come here to hone their artistic skills. SCAD presently owns more than 60 buildings in Savannah and has campuses in Atlanta, LaCoste, France, and in Hong Kong.

These two factors, in concert with others, created a sepia-toned historic backdrop with an overlay of vibrant color. Many SCAD students (evidenced by their eclectic 'artsy-trendy' appearance and constant motion) rent apartments in this area.

What makes this apartment unique

Our property is ideally located for many reasons. It is a pleasant walk to the river (1.5 miles), with history and art all along the way. Located at the south end of the always-busy Forsyth Park, a walk through the center of which leads to Bull Street...the center of downtown Savannah. Bull Street is rich in attractions that include some of the most beautiful architecture, historic squares, antebellum houses and quaint restaurants (many of which were featured in several movies filmed in Savannah).

A scenic 15-minute drive through the marshes brings us to Tybee Island, with its spectacular beach and pier. Swimming, surfing, body & boogie-board surfing, kayaking, whale and porpoise watching tours, and great seaside restaurants are some of the reasons to make the drive.

Savannah is a great walking city. The terrain is flat, the ambiance is comfortable, and the eye-pleasers abound. Majestic live-oak trees, adorned with the angora scarves of Spanish Moss, provide a canopy for the abundant flora that includes Magnolia & Crepe Myrtle trees, azaleas, and camellias, to name but a few.

Paradise is found.

We loved this place!

My husband and I have stayed in Savannah many times. Last week we were showing Savannah to a Michigan friend who had never been there. We needed 2 bedrooms. Heyward House was absolutely prefect. The pictures just don't do it justice although they are very accurate. The owners have created such an elegant yet very comfortable oasis. The interior of this place is incredible. From the beautiful living room to the comfy TV den you just can't go wrong. Owner's live upstairs, are friendly and helpful if you need it. We had coffee & cocktails on the piazza overlooking the koi pond. Very private. The only caution is that this place is just below Forsyth Park and it is a bit of a walk to the river. No problem for us but if you don't have a car, be prepared to walk a bit. We felt lucky to find this jewel, we'll be back.

From the hand stitch wall art to the comfortable beds to the fresh fruit, cozy porch. I could go on and on. I'll miss Savannah once our son graduates from SCAD but plan on returning for many years to come.

Perfection!!

One of the best HomeAways we have ever stayed at! Location was perfect, the owners were BEYOND accommodating and price was perfect. I stayed there with my husband and another couple and it was very spacious for 4 people. We spent every morning on the deck having complimentary coffee and while watching the fish in their giant Coy pond. Everything was in walking distance, including a grocery store! The owners gave us some great recommendations when checked in and provided so many amenities in the home that I felt like I had everything I could possibly need to enjoy my stay. Highly recommend!!

Wonderful

This is a beautiful property and the owners live upstairs which was very convenient. The unit was clean and have many charming qualities. The outside veranda was also quite lovely. The property is close to many amenities and you would easily park your car and walk everywhere. I would definitely recommend this property.
