Dear Elain and Bev,
Marja joins me in sending you our greatings for the year 2011: peace and health for you two and your family.
In these times of 'Grand Blanc', it is a pleasure to remember the good time we had in Château de Labaurie...
Hereunder, a view of our garden in Cosne sur Loire taken last april.
Our warmest regards.
Hubby & I moved over to France from Devon to renovate a ruin of an old Chateau. Hubby was a professional housebuilder and thought this would be a challenge. It was and still is, lots of maintenance and gardening, but the most beautiful place to live and share our home with holiday guests. Our two lovely daughters live in the UK with their growing-up children and our son followed with his partner and had two sons born over here. Both working in the building trade, so anyone needing our help and advice are very welcome to come and talk to us.
A definate challenge, but well worth it. Who wouldn't want the chance of a lifetime to live in a French Chateau.
The quality of life, the space and the beautiful countryside and friendly natives. The roads are a pleasure to drive along and it goes without saying the French wines are superb and much cheaper than anywhere else. We enjoy a shorter winter and can even sit outside to enjoy a meal at Christmas lunchtime.
Chalais is in the beautiful rolling countryside on the border of the Dordogne, 50 kms south of Angouleme, a beautiful city with ramparts, the Charente river and lovely churches; and 50 kms north of Libourne, a wonderful place to visit with its picturesque Gironde river Within easy reach is the atlantic coastline with its lovely sandy beaches, the vineyards of Bordeaux, Cognac and Bergerac, St. Emilion and Pomeral, famous for wine and cognac. There are lots of nearby producers of the famous local drink called Pineau, a mixture of Cognac and grapejuice, aged in oak barrels and matured to a delightful nectar of the gods. Not to be missed are the lovely river trips on the meadering river Charente.
Close by are shops, bars, cafes, a theatre, a cinema, tennis courts, river fishing, canoeing, horse riding.
Bordeaux and Bergerac airports are only 90 mins. drive away.
Golf: Angouleme golf course 50 kms.
Local one 30 mins run from here.
Superb 18 hole at Cognac approx. 40 mins distance.
