Quaint rental property

Date of Stay: June 2007
We stayed at this location during our vacationin June 2007. The house was very clean, except for the enclosed porch...the windows had been open for a while, apparently, and the furniture was heavily covered with dust. Other than that, it was very clean. It is an older home that has been updated, so those who require the latest & greatest need not apply.
We were greeted by a property manager within 15-20 minutes of our arrival and she also checked in on us twice during our stay.
The house is two blocks from the beach, as described, and just a short walk to the Pier. Plenty of room, nice size kitchen, and a bath & a half in the main house. The finished/furnished basement is a separate rental unit, so the potential for decreased privacy exists. In our case, we had the entire house, which provided ample room and an additional bathroom/shower and living room, but this unit is not accessible from inside the house. In order for those occupying the basement to join us and vice versa, we had to go outside around the back of the house. Might not be a good idea for some situations. In our case, we had our 20-year-old and 17 year-old staying down there...old enough to be ok without constant supervision, but if we didn't want them locked out and wanted them to be able to get in the house, we had to leave the backdoor unlocked all night.
No central A/C, which I realize normally is not an issue in Maine. However, it was in the 90's when we were there and the window units could not keep up. They kept freezing up and would shut off, which meant an hour or two without A/C while ithey defrosted.
I'd suggest an additional trash can or two outside. We set our trash out on trash day, but still had an overflowing can by the time we left. Since the house holds so many people, one can just isn't enough for a week's stay.
Unfortunately, bed linens and towels are not provided, although there is a washer & dryer in the kitchen. There were 6 of us, and I only packed 2 bath towels per person....those 12 towels plus bed sheets filled an entire suitcase! We did not have room for more in our vehicle, and therefore, did laundry every other day. Not what I really want to do on my vacation! You can get towels and linens provided, but the charges are steep.
The location was nice.....not in the heart of a bustling city, but within short driving distance to several hot spots like Kennebunk. Neighborhood was mostly calm & quiet with the exception of some rowdy teenagers across the street. I'm no prude, but their LOUD language bothered even me.
Outside shower was nice for cleaning off after being at the beach.
The closet and electrical set-up in the smaller upstairs bedroom left a little to be desired. 3rd bedroom upstairs is a child's room, and is not really usable for anything but.
All in all, the house is nice, clean and the owner and manager were both very friendly and helpful.
