Red Gables, on the corner of Ocean and West Grand Avenues in unique Old Orchard Beach, still retains the charm of the near-the-sea cottage it was when built 100 years ago. Halfway between the lively fun of the Pier area and the calmer small-village atmosphere of Ocean Park, this clean, cheerful, two-story home has partial ocean views upstairs and is just a 1-minute walk to the beach -- near the famous Googins Rocks -- and a 10-minute walk to the Pier and downtown. It is a one-family house with two front doors (not a duplex) and has special features such as air-conditioning, central heat, Internet wireless service, laundry room, and dishwasher. Eat-in kitchen, comfortable living room, 2 large bedrooms plus 1 small bedroom, and 1.5 bathrooms. Corner yard with gated picket fence has patio table, chairs, and gas grill. This is a great, family-vacation neighborhood, with groceries just .5 to 3 miles away. Well-behaved pets are welcome -- please check with us first. Sept OOB is beautiful!

The beach, just a 1-minute walk from Red Gables, is 7 miles long and great for ocean swimming, sunbathing, walking, and shell collecting. You won't find a more gorgeous sunrise anywhere! Generations of families have made Old Orchard Beach their vacation destination since the 1800s. Downtown, half a mile and a 5- to 10-minute walk from Red Gables, you can find bookstores, many other shops, and a variety of restaurants, as well as an amusement park, boat rides, and other activities for the enjoyment of the whole family.   • Red Gables is rented Saturday to Saturday.
    'Shoulder' or side-season weeks (full weeks in June, post-Labor-Day weeks in September, and weeks in October) are $950 ($975 beginning in September 2010).

    Please Note: If you'd like to book two or more weeks in a row during those side-season months, we are pleased to offer a further discounted rate of $850/week. This means, for example, that you can rent two weeks in a row during May-June or September-October for a total of $1,700.

    Maine state rental tax of 7% is required.
    Returnable security deposit is $200 ($300 with pet). We have been fortunate to have great people rent Red Gables and have never had to keep any part of a security deposit. P.S. Still true after five terrific seasons!
  • Our reservation process is easy: We fill out your reservation-confirmation form online for you and email it to you already completed, including your payment schedule. The reservation deposit is half the rental rate, with the balance due one month prior to your arrival.

Notes: Red Gables is a single family home, not a duplex; it has two front doors, both of which lock with the same key. In addition to the kitchen table, which seats 6, there is a small folding table plus 4 extra folding chairs stored in the laundry room, within easy reach. You will need to bring your own towels and bed linens; everything else, including pillows and blankets, is provided here. We also keep Red Gables stocked with smaller supplies such as extra light bulbs, batteries, and flashlight. The entire house has wall air-conditioning available -- a major plus during a heat wave or just for a change from a pleasant but hot day at the beach. The nice little yard has a picket fence around it. Patio table with umbrella and yard chairs are provided, along with a gas grill. There is ample on-street parking right in front of the house and on the Ocean Avenue side of the house. Walk to the beach in just 1 minute, down Ocean Avenue on the left side of the house to the dune boardwalk.

Great Family Beach House

We stayed at Red Gables July 4th-11th 2009 and had a fantastic time. The house was so cute, nicely decorated, comfortable and close to the beach. Our teenage daughters were able to walk down to the pier on their own which was really nice. We loved the little fenced in yard. We hope to return to Red Gables again next year!

We have rented this place for 4 years in a row. It's an excellent stay. The fact that our dog is welcome is what drew us to this in the first place. We also love the yard and the a/c for those hot summer days and nights. There is so much to do on foot and by a short drive. Nancy and Phil are great! Thanks!

Fantastic Red Gables Retreat!

Red Gables was everything as promised and more. My family is spending two weeks at this property and are loving every minute of it. The house is charming and well decorated. You walk in and feel at home. The location is fabulous just a brief walk to the beach for sun and fun, then a short walk to the excitement of the pier or to the quaint shops of Ocean Park. The spacious house is perfect for families and the fact that our dog was welcome made it perfect. The place was also spotless. We Highly Reccommend Red Gables!
