Red Gables still has its 100-year-old by-the-sea cottage charm, with partial ocean views upstairs, and offers modern conveniences galore: Internet, a/c, central heat, dishwasher, laundry room, cable TV, DVD, games, books, and numerous basic supplies. Two large bedrooms upstairs have a total of 3 double beds and 1 single, with big closets and full bath. A small 1-single bedroom, fully equipped eat-in kitchen, pantry/laundry, half-bath, and very comfortable living room make up the downstairs. Red Gables is a clean, cheerful one-family house with two front doors, and guests enjoy the picket-fenced corner yard with gas grill, patio table, and yard chairs. Halfway between the Pier and Ocean Park -- each a 10-minute walk -- Red Gables is on the ocean side of West Grand, at the corner of Ocean Avenue, and just a 1-minute walk to a gorgeous part of the 7-mile-long ocean beach. This is a great, family-vacation neighborhood, and we also welcome well-behaved canine family members.

Old Orchard Beach is right on the southern coast of Maine, with famous historic Kennebunkport not far to the south and the lively and beautiful waterfront city of Portland just 12 miles to the north. The beach, just a 1-minute walk from Red Gables, is 7 miles long and great for ocean swimming, sunbathing, walking, and shell collecting. You won't find a more gorgeous sunrise anywhere! Generations of families have made Old Orchard Beach their vacation destination since the 1800s. Downtown, half a mile and a 5- to 10-minute walk from Red Gables, you can find bookstores, many other shops, and a variety of restaurants, as well as an amusement park, boat rides, and other activities for the enjoyment of the whole family. Note: Well-Behaved Pets Welcome--one dog any size, or two smaller dogs.

Notes

  • Red Gables is rented Saturday to Saturday.
    'Shoulder' or side-season weeks (full weeks in June, post-Labor-Day weeks in September, and weeks in October) are $975.

    Please Note: If you'd like to book two or more weeks in a row during the spring or fall months, we are pleased to offer a further discounted rate of $850/week. This means, for example, that you can rent two weeks in a row during May-June or September-October for a total of $1700.

    Maine state rental tax of 7% is required.
    Returnable security deposit is $200 ($300 with pet). We have been fortunate to have great people rent Red Gables and have never had to keep any part of a security deposit. P.S. Still true after 8 terrific seasons!
  • Our reservation process is easy: We fill out your reservation-confirmation form online for you and email it to you already completed, including your payment schedule. The reservation deposit is half the rental rate, with the balance due one month prior to your arrival.

Notes: Red Gables is a unique, single-family house with an Old Orchard Beach cottage history. It has all the comforts of home. All that guests need to bring is their own towels and bed linens (or rent locally); everything else, including many pillows and blankets, is provided here. We also keep Red Gables stocked with many smaller supplies such as extra light bulbs, batteries, flashlight, and paper products. The entire house has wall air-conditioning available -- a major plus during a heat wave or just for a change from a pleasant but hot day at the beach. The corner yard has a picket fence around it. Patio table with umbrella and yard chairs are provided, along with a gas grill. There is ample on-street parking right in front of the house and on the Ocean Avenue side of the house. Walk to the beach in 1 minute, down Ocean Avenue on the left side of the house to the dune boardwalk.

Fantastic Red Gables Retreat!

Red Gables was everything as promised and more. My family is spending two weeks at this property and are loving every minute of it. The house is charming and well decorated. You walk in and feel at home. The location is fabulous just a brief walk to the beach for sun and fun, then a short walk to the excitement of the pier or to the quaint shops of Ocean Park. The spacious house is perfect for families and the fact that our dog was welcome made it perfect. The place was also spotless. We Highly Reccommend Red Gables!

Lovely home in which the owners thought of everything! Pet friendly and the fenced in yard is an added bonus as there didnt seem to be too many homes in the neighborhood with fences.

Owers were great to deal with. Prompt, quick to respond when booking/making inquiries and very nice.

Great location. One block from the beach, short walk to attractions and restaurants. Would definitely go back!

The Red Gable is very nice. The AC was much appreciated since we had very hot weather. Our Lab enjoyed it too!!!! The house is very nice and close to everything. Nancy and her husband are very friendly. Would recommend it.

Everything we expected and more

Red Gables was everything we expected and more. My family had the most enjoyable time here this week, and what a week. With sun and temps close to 90 degrees all week, and waves extra large due to Hurricanes Danielle and Earl, it was close to paradise. The house has an amazing charm and character that makes it almost feel like our own. Thank you both for a week of memories and stories!

Red Gables is our Home Away from Home

For the Past 5 years my family and I have enjoyed a wonderful vacation in Old Orchard Beach at Red Gables - it has now become a family tradition.

The house is clean comfortable and completely charming. It has all of the important amenities including a laundry room and WiFi. The locatiion is absolutely perfect with just a three minute walk onto the beach and a ten minute walk to the pier.

We very much enjoy the large kitchen for family dinners as well as the yard area for BBQ's and dinner outside. We have two dogs who also benefit from the gated yard area where they can be outside and relax. The bedrooms are a great size and nice and cozy.

We could not imagine staying anywhere else for our summer vacation and would recommend Red Gables to anyone interested in a nice beach vacation retreat. We booked our return for next year already!
