Not as good as it seems
Review Submitted: October 28, 2008
Date of Stay: August 2008
My family and I stayed at this place for 2 weeks last August 2008. The outside of the entrance door had a lot of spider webs with big spiders in it. Inside, we were greeted by an army of very busy ants and also 38 cockroaches until we left. Behind the entrance door was a big hole in the drywall, which we immediately reported to Resort Quest the next morning. My husband and children were bitten by cockroaches while sleeping and due to the ant problem had to move bedrooms from the loft to 1 of the bottom bedrooms below. When using the BBQ grill we had to buy cleaning supplies and I spent my vacation time cleaning the grill as well as the house. The bicycles were not able to be unlocked. We complained to the Resort Quest Center in Freshfields, but were told to deal directly with the owner, since we did book this vacation through the owner. They never sent a cleaning or repair crew out, and leaving messages with the Maintenance Department is useless, as they are being ignored. We did contact the owner when we came back home, but just to get a $ 100.00 refund out of their own pocket as Resort Quest denied we ever contacted them! The owner believes not the customer and rather hides behind Resort Quest denial. That I find very disturbing as also the fact that this was my only yearly vacation I get and if I had the money, I would have moved out from this house as this was no vacation for me while I was there. No to mention afterwards dealing with the owner. We have been to 5 different vacation villas on Seabrook Island over the years, but this one was the worst I have ever been in on the Island!
Owner's Response: This Tarpon Pond Cottage, our future retirement home, has been on the rental market since 2004. In all this time we have never had a complaint that was not immediately resolved, until this one. The only other review we have received was from a renter who stayed at our property within the same time frame. Please take a look yourself for a different perspective.
We were, of course, very concerned with this disgruntled renter’s apparent difficulties during her stay and have spent many hours and much effort to investigate and attempt to resolve them.
As a both a property owner and frequent vacationer my advice to all travelers is to immediately inform the property managers or owners if anything is not to your liking. Whether it is not enough hangers, a gas grill that needs to be cleaned or something really important…let them know right away. Your satisfaction IS VERY IMPORTANT to them. In fact their business depends on it. I have always found that all you need to do is ask.
Our property is managed by one of the most respected Vacation Rental Management companies on Kiawah and Seabrook Island. We have found them to always be responsive to any of our renters’ problems, both big and small. All renters through CyberRentals also have my phone number and are encouraged to call me with any problems or questions regarding our property, before, during or after their stay. If a renter has a problem, it can only be addressed by the Management Company or me if we are notified.
Unfortunately this individual did not notify anyone of any problem during her two week stay until she was checking out.
We are truly sorry that her stay was not what she had hoped for and wish we had been given the opportunity make her stay more enjoyable. If these problems were as she stated they were all minor ones that our rental management company would have resolved quickly.
If the dozens of satisfied vacationers, in the past five years, is not evidence enough that you will be thrilled with your stay in our recently updated Tarpon Pond Cottage on Seabrook Island I would be happy to talk to you in detail about our property and your vacation plans in the Charleston/Seabrook Island area. We look forward to opening up our home to you on your next vacation. You will NOT be disappointed!
