Hightower House is in a quiet wooded area just outside the town of Hiawassee, in an acre of gently sloping woodland garden, at an altitude of just over 2000 ft. It sits right on the edge of the Chattahoochee National Forest and only a few minutes from the 155-mile shoreline of Lake Chatuge. Hightower House will comfortably accommodate six guests in 2600 square feet of spacious air-conditioned luxury on three levels. The master suite is on the ground floor, kids room/games room in the basement. There are three bedrooms, one on each level, each with its own en-suite facilities. Two separate living areas, a fully equipped large gourmet kitchen, a relaxing dining area and a full laundry make this the perfect base for a great family vacation. The large wrap-around porch with rocking chairs is the ideal spot to unwind at the end of the day.

Hightower House is in a wonderful wooded location in the heart of the North Georgia mountains just east of Hiawassee (5 mins) and Lake Chatuge, and close to Georgia's highest mountain, Brasstown Bald. The Chattahoochee National Forest makes a scenic backdrop to the home. This luxury private home makes an excellent base for sightseeing, boating, the Georgia Mountain Fair, hiking, golf, fishing, horseback riding, live music performances, and leaf viewing in Fall. Our home has easy access by a short paved road directly from scenic highway US 76. A relaxing and scenic drive from Atlanta airport, you can be in the heart of the mountains in no time. Central Florida and its theme parks are an easy day's drive, making this an ideal base for a two-center vacation.

There is no additional cleaning charge for for four nights or more, but $50 extra is charged for three night bookings. These rates are for up to six guests, and are fully inclusive except for 12% State taxes. Maximum of six guests please, except small babies, no exceptions. No charge for pets if pre-approved.

Trout fishing in adjacent creeks: There are accessible creeks close by the property, great for both serious fishing and for kids to learn the sport. There is an easy walk through deep woods and alongside the creek in the Swallow Creek Wildlife Management Area just a minute's drive away.

So much to do, so little time!: Hightower House is at the hub of an area with extensive activities and places to visit. We are still discovering new things to do each time we stay. Many places are within a 15 to 20 minute drive, while less than an hour will take you to three more States (Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina), the Foxfire center, white water rafting and plenty more. Just to whet your appetite, close by are boating on Lake Chatuge, river tube riding, alpine Helen, the Fieldstone Fun Center and movie theater, Brasstown Bald (Georgia's highest mountain), scenic drives through the Smokey Mountains and wildlife preserves, golf, nature trails (including the Appalachian Trail), trout fishing, antique shopping galore, and winter snow-tubing. For a few hours at home, we have a pool table, air hockey and PS2.

The town of Hiawassee - eating out: Hiawassee town, just five minutes by car from Hightower House, has everything you need to complete your perfect vacation. A large Ingles supermarket will provide you with everything to stock the kitchen for meals at home, while there is a range of places to eat out. Daniels Steak House, The Rose, and the Mountain Kitchen offer great casual evening dining, and there are also good Italian and Mexican restaurants, while Watercrest at the Fieldstone Center is a more formal restaurant. There are several great local places for breakfast and lunch, including the very popular Mossy Bottoms cafe. There are also all the main fast food outlets - Macdonalds, Dairy Queen, Taco Bell, KFC, etc.

Vacation Nightmare

We were greeted by spiders, cobwebs & a strong musty, mildew odor. The jacuzzi tub had mildew in it and the drain had a leak. Two of the showers had mildew stains on the floor. I had to ask the neighbor to come over and verify for the owner (at their request). I also took numerous photos. We looked for other places to stay, but unfortunately everything was already booked and we had our dog with us. Because our son is asthmatic, he had to stay with one of our friends that were vacationing in the same area. The housekeeper came over to clean & asked us to finish the laundry so that she could go home to cook! The house still had a lingering odor of mildew. For the cost, you would expect a clean place to arrive at and not have to clean it yourself. The owners claim we did not have to be inconvenienced with the cleaning, but they did not respond to initial calls. We waited over an hour. On the 3rd day the AC was out for over 6hrs. We spent all day at the beach and had to come back to a hot house at 4pm. After several failed attempts in trying to contact all emergency numbers, including the housekeeper's, we finally received a call. Initially we were asked to wait until the following day to have the AC unit repaired. This of course was unacceptable to us. The unit was finally fixed after 10pm that evening. Again the owner claim this to be a minor inconvenience! Of course this could be a result of it being our family vacation and not theirs that caused them to feel this way. One issue is considered to be a minor inconvenience, not several. In our opinion, once they had our money, all the problems of the house became ours and not theirs. They never offered us an apology, instead their attitude on everything was that these things are to be expected. This should not be the case when you're paying to vacation there. Based on our own experience, we would not recommend this rental for anyone who values having a relaxing, carefree vacation. Beware of the wasps on the wraparound deck!

A beautiful clean house in ideal setting. Everything we needed including annabel the friendly dog next door( we were missing our dog). We live in the UK and booking was very smooth compared to other years . Thank you for a lovely vacation.

In our experience this was an outstanding rental property. It is well maintained and has virtually all the amenities one would desire. There is plenty of room for a family and even a couple of guests. Furniture is of good quality. Kitchen and appliances are very nice. Master bath is very generous but the jacuzzi did not function well ( convinced us that it is not something we would like in our home). It takes a lot of hot water and is noisy and too powerful.
We appreciated the WiFi access. House has a games room that would be attractive to young people. Quiet neighborhood. Nice road loop for walking and exercise. Shopping and other attractions are relatively close by. Hiawassee and other nearby towns have interesting things to do and it's a very scenic area. Owners were responsive to a couple of minor problems. We would recommend this home for renters who have families and/or appreciate the space that a larger home offers.

Beautiful! We spent our 22nd anniversary here and it was simply beautiful! Upscale home in a upscale neighborhood with plenty of peace and serenity.Extremely clean and maintained home. Close to everything, paved roads, easily accessible. It's (as we called it)the QUAM! Everything you could dream of and more. We can't wait to get time to come back!Thank You so much!
