'Pine Shadows' is a wooded mountain chalet A-frame with 3 BR/ 2 BA, wrap-around decks, a 25' ceiling, open floor plan, and cozy wood fireplace.

Tucked in the western North Carolina foothills of the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky Mountains, the cabin is nestled on three private acres in the woods with westerly long-range views in winter and spring and lovely gorge and woodland views in summer and fall. Columbus, NC is known for its good weather year round, making the house easily accessible at any time of the year.

The chalet is four miles from Tryon, NC and 10 miles from Lake Lure, 22 miles from Hendersonville, and 43 miles from Asheville. 'Pine Shadows' is a rustic cabin with all modern conveniences. It is a short drive to the higher elevations and attractions of Asheville and Hendersonville.

'Pine Shadows' chalet is off the beaten track. The cabin in nestled in the woods at the top of a private paved road in the township of Columbus, NC (Pop. 992), just off Interstate 26 (I-26). The house is three minutes from downtown Columbus, ten miles from Lake Lure, four miles west of Tryon, 22 miles east of Hendersonville, 43 miles southeast of Asheville, and 30 miles north of Spartanburg, SC. Western North Carolina is famous for its gorgeous mountains and quaint towns.

Columbus is located in one of North Carolina's isothermal belts, where the weather is most often quite moderate and winters are extremely mild.

    Cancellations
    1. Intent to cancel should be made in writing to the owner as soon as possible .
    2. No cancellation fee is charged if reservation is rescheduled within 6 months of the original arrival.
    3. 50% of total will be retained for any cancellation made 30 or fewer days prior to reserved arrival.
    4. 25% of total will be retained for cancellation made more than 31 days prior to reserved arrival.
    5. Travel insurance is suggested.

The entire downstairs as well as the deck is accessible for wheelchairs through standard doorways. Two bedrooms and a bathroom are downstairs. Living areas are carpeted. Kitchen and bath have wood flooring. The owner's parents comfortably navigate downstairs areas as well as the landscaped areas surrounding the cabin.

Response to guest reviews:: We welcome all guest reviews and evaluations and have been delighted with many high-ranking reviews. We often take action on recommendations and suggestions made to us by our guests. In response to one review, we now have a newer and faster computer in the king loft. In response to several evaluations, the living room TV has now been relocated to a more viewer-friendly wall and a larger flat screen TV is installed in the master loft. Ladderback dining chairs have been replaced with more comfortable seating.

What's new in 2011?: You'll now find WIFI, a larger flat screen TV in the master loft, a new fridge with ice in the door, and granite countertops in the kitchen. Shaw floors, some wood, some carpeted are installed throughout the chalet.

Lavish Mountain Retreat

Gateway to heaven. The Chalet is a peaceful and tranquil home that is secluded, yet only a few miles away is a small town with all the amenities that you would need. The location is close to historic settings, shopping and scenic tours. The photos on the listing only display a fraction of the beauty of the well-appointed home and grounds. We watched the sunset from the deck and a great view of the woods and the mountains. Our little dog loved taking in the sun through the patio doors. The attached garage was definitely a plus. We had some rain during our stay and it made loading and unloading uneventful. Karen, our hostess, was accommodating and attentive. She promptly responded to any inquiry or concern. We didn't see any deer, but we saw a white (albino) squirrel. You will not be disappointed with this rental.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Pet-friendly, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, People with Disabilities, Romantic Getaway

All the comforts of home and MORE!!

We had an awesome time at the Pine Shadows Chalet. It is great to vacation with all the luxuries of home. The house is decorated so cozy and inviting that you really don't want to leave. The first two nights we were there it was cold enough that we actually got to build a fire in the fireplace and that was really nice. The deck gave us the opportunity to observe deer in the lower part of the woods. We were 1 hour away from Cherokee so we visited the casino one day. Hendersonville has awesome antique shopping. Landrum, SC also has amazing little shops. This house is located in the perfect location for visiting winerys (there are at least 3 that are a very short distance away), antique shopping or just riding and enjoying the amazing views. Located about 2 minutes from town, you have all the fast food restaurants, dine in restaurants, pharmacy, grocery stores, gas, etc. that you could want or need. This house is the PERFECT vacation spot and we will definitely be returning. We did not want to come home!! Thanks Armels for offering this amazing rental opportunity. We can't wait to go back!! Love the privacy!

Felt like we were living in our home, with all the amenities! Very private, plenty of room. Saw deer the first morning, right outside trotting by. We really enjoyed just relaxing, BBQ and taking short day trips to many local sites. Highly recommend.
