Unique Beachfront in Puerto Rican Tradition for Nature-Seekers

I recently stayed at CDP with my partner and my 2 children, ages 5 & 7. We had a blast! The house is everything one could need, neat, clean, and well-stocked. We had wireless internet and a newly built laundry shed steps from the house. I must say, Casa de Playa is not Vegas. It is not the Bellagio. What it is, is a truly comfortable beach house with the ocean breeze lulling you to sleep at night (we didn't want the AC), wild horses roaming past and bathing in the lagoon, iguanas, egrets, palms, sea glass galore. It is spiritual in its simplicity!! The caretaker was so friendly and accommodating! I didn't have cell phone the entire time ( Verizon's fault, not the island), a blessing actually, and he arranged my taxi, made sure of my ferry tickets, answered all my questions and even found us a baby sitter so we could go indulge in one of the nice restaurants on the island! My only advice is to protect your skin!! The sun is sooo strong, my little ones ears burned! Sunscreen is mildly effective, but copious sand rubs it off. Sun shirts and sun hats are needed if you are easily burned.
The house was well kept, easy to clean ( a constant with sand and kids), lovely to watch one of the only spots on the island that has large waves!! My partner and my 7 year old did go snorkeling, which you need water shoes due to the rocks, and had a blast! The locals use this access point to go boogie boarding due to the waves. There is a grill, a stove, a TV with DVD, dish soap, plenty of towels.
I want to thank the owner from the bottom of my heart for her "child" discount and her wonderful communication throughout the process of renting. I had a rejuvenating, delightful, much needed break from the real world! And the children will NEVER forget their trip to Vieques and our little bungalow, Casa de Playa!!

Casa de Playa was perfect for us; three adults. The house is small so for groups larger than four people you would have to be okay with spending time together in a confined space. The house comes with absolutely everything you could possibly need including; beach towels, linens, kitchen supplies (even trash bags and dish soap), boogie boards, and sun hats. The W/D are not on the actual property but are a very short walk past beautiful trees and scenery. There was even clothes soap available for us to use.

The land crabs in the side yard are very fun to watch. The beach directly in front of the house is practically deserted at all times. It is wonderful for beach combing (we found lots of sea glass) but if you are looking to snorkel I would recommend Mosquito Pier or some of the beaches on the former Navy grounds.

The A/C unit is in the master bedroom and doesn't cool the second bedroom very well, but being beachfront we preferred to have the windows open and the fans running. That way you can hear the ocean and fall asleep to the coqui frogs...Or use the ear plugs available at the house if you like to sleep in a quiet atmosphere (as I said before the has has just about everything you could possibly need).

Casa de Playa is not a fancy house but it is very comfortable and inviting. We enjoyed our stay and had absolutely no complaints. Just a warning that the floors can be a little slippery when they are wet because they are ceramic tile. I would recommend this house if you don't need a ton of space and can live without large screen TV's, pools, and fancy furniture. You certainly can't beat the price for a beach front house on Vieques!
